KUIU Ultra 6000 Article

Good article Luke. Was looking at getting this bag for my son as birthday gift this year, but he routinely hauls the same kind of loads I do every year, 100+ lbs of elk and moose, think he will just keep using the badlands summit I received on a warrenty return for my old 4500. Both of us have hauled 90lbs sand bags in it this winter and while it was more comfy then the 4500 it was no where near as good as my kifaru. But it will do job at no outlay of $$$

ManoSteel,

Sounds like a solid plan for sure!!! I like your style on not shelling out anymore money for certain. Especially for a kid. The packs I used in high school certainly "worked" and I didn't know any better so it doesn't matter as much. That said if you could get $250 or so for the Badlands I feel the comfort factor in the Kuiu Ultra is worth the upgrade for sure for another $100. Atleast over the 4500 I haven't packed with the Summit at all. That and the fact that is quite a bit larger and nearly half the weight would make it pretty attractive as well. I see no reason why you couldn't even get $300 for that Badlands over on AT or something.

Great read,Thanks!
Question...I noticed on my girlfriends Ultra, there are two attachment points for the load lifter straps on the frame.
Did you adjust these when swapping the pack between you and Becca?

I don't think there are actually two attachment points. One is for when the bag is attached to the frame, and one is for when you are using the load shelf. So, you are just seeing the buckle on the bridge strap. If you attached anything to it, that bridge strap would just pull out, since it really isn't attached to anything when the bag is attached to the frame.

Just looked at the pack again.
Thanks, that makes more sense:)

Is anybody putting the water bladder between the frame and the bag on their Ultra?

Hey guys just bought the ultra and hiked with it for the first time today. The pack is very comfortable and I am very happy with it so far. I did have a small problem with the load lifter staps sliding on me. I tripled the strap through the buckle which seemed to work well and fix the problem. This is not how the strap is in the pictures in the directions that came with the pack. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem?

Fish, make sure your 3bar slider is pushed all the way down to the black piece at the lowest portion of the adjustment on the shoulder strap. Then double check that the lifter strap is running through the proper slots in the buckle. The shouldn't skip at all.

Like RosinBag says, it sounds like the strap is running through the wrong slots. I know I've almost run the strap through the wrong slots a couple times. Whoever assembled it could have easily made a mistake. The bottom slot is for looks or weight savings. Not meant to have a strap running through it. My load lifters have never slipped.

Sorry about that. If you want call me and I should be able to walk you through it.
