KUIU Ultra 6000 Article

Luke, thanks for putting the review together, well done! My thoughts are nearly identical to yours as far as how the pack performs, likes/dislikes .

Great review! Exactly what I expect from a Rokslide review.

On a side note, all you single guys need to print up that last picture of Becca hauling the full load with raft and show it to any potential significant others and ask if they can haul it for 120+ miles. If the answer is no, "NEXT!!!" just move on down the line.

Haha. I think there will be A LOT of "NEXT!!" getting called out! I don't know if there will be one that doesn't get nested...

Great write up.

the frame was not on my hips, but watching it on the trail with a heavy load, i concur on the waistbelt.
right after the icon pro was released, i asked the owner of said pack if he has called and tried to order the icon belt.

Great review! I have been using this pack for the last couple months and agree with you. It's the best backpack in it's price range for hunting and for short pack outs with a heavy load. I would prefer the old snap buckles as well and a upgrade on the hip belt would be nice. I'll probably upgrade to the Icon Pro after this season. Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

Had my hunting partner pick this pack up and so far he likes it. Great pack for the money and I was very surprised at how light it is. Can't wait to see him pack a Caribou out in it!

Luke, what did you think of the 250D(?) fabric? If the frame and belt were upgraded for heavier loads, would the pack bag still be adequate for the 80-100 pound range?

This pack sounds like the best option for an ultralight pack, maybe even the only option right now. Just have to keep the loads within the comfort range.

i disagree. SG sky7400 tipping the scale at a whopping 67oz...

although in a different price class...

Ok... I'll go with that. My idea of ultralight is based on the KU series which are all sub 3# packs, even the Ultra is a little heavy comparatively speaking. Anymore sub 4# packs out there?

you could get there with a paradox i bet, but imo the verdict is still out on their HEAVY packing ability. otherwise id think youd be hard pressed to find another to do 70+lb loads

Luke,

Thanks for the great review.
Just curious, how heavy is that pack that Becca is carrying in the photo? Looks pretty heavy.

good review Luke. Your observations are pretty much spot on with other opinions I have read about that pack. I'm sure one of these times they will get everything dialed in right.

Glad you guys found the article of some value. I did upgrade to the icon pro suspension and just got out of the field after 6 days of lugging 60 pounds Sri d in the Alaska range with it. Certainly an improvement.....more to come.

Don't keep us waiting too long Luke. I've enjoyed the Ultra, but would love to upgrade just the hip belt. Kuiu said not likely to happen soon when I asked but hopefully that will change. With the budget I'm on, I just can't justify spending almost double for the top tier packs out there and would love to make the Ultra go a little further in it's ability and comfort with a better belt.

Yes sir....I did. Then promptly sold the 1850 packbag with the Ultra waistbelt and should harness. Kinda lame you gotta go that route to upgrade the suspension to the frame, but such is life. I do like the pull forward waistbelt and seems a bit more comfy, the icon pro shoulder harnesses is kinda meh over that of the ultra but I guess I will take a bit more padding. Overall glad I upgraded and sold the Icon Pro 1850 packbag with the Ultra waistbelt and shoulder harness for $140 thus a $60+shipping upgrade to get the Icon pro frame/harness/waistbelt with the Ultra 6K bag. Which I prefer the simply layout of the 6K Ultra over the over engineered Icon Pro line, but thats just me.

Hope that helps.

Definitely helps. I'm in the same boat as well. Sure wish they would just go ahead and offer the suspensions on their own since everything is interchangeable. Would be a great option for everyone.
