Kuiu tiburon hybrid hoody

wore this last night on a 1.5 hr hike, it was 27c, 81f. I wore this next to skin, and was comfortable, it didnt have that slippery clammy feel like i get with most synthetic base layer type shirts. To me it felt cooler to wear than the sitka core light hoody. It has a baggier fit compared to the core light as well, so not a true base layer but a good option for an airy sun type hoody. Hood is pretty roomy as well, similar to the gila, i kinda wish it was a bit smaller because in the breeze it would blow around to the front of my shoulders, but i understand why the fit is larger. Kinda wish there was thumb holes. Took my pack off at the top of the hill and sat and glassed for 5 min and was surprised to feel the material was dried out already, like i mentioned it was quite breezy too so that helped with the dry time. Overall its a winner in my opinion.

I wanted to like it but the fit was huge unfortunately

What are your thoughts on this as outer layer for early Dove or Teal season?

This is 100% spot on with my experience.

If you’re wearing a ball cap pull the hood over the edge of the bill, keeps hoods tight in some strong winds and covers a little more skin.

Wore on a run and got a decent sweat going. Dried quickly and fabric didn’t feel clammy. Again, early on, but so far so good.

Not much more use for me at the moment. It almost made it in my pack for a dall sheep hunt august 1st but took the gila hoody instead.

@sr80 and @schmalzy any more experience with the hoody? I am probably just going to buy one. Reason I ask is do I buy another sitka core lt wt or try this bad boy out.

Adam

Wear mine pretty consistently and have been pleased. I personally like it more than Sitka core lw but that’s going to be pretty subjective. The hood is much looser than the Sitka.

i kinda wish the hood on the Tiburon was a bit smaller. But i do like how there is room to zip the chest zipper fully up and have room left in the neck area to not have to wear the hood.

Agreed. It cleans up pretty decently too with jeans and decent boots and doesn’t look out of place in a construction/engineering setting.

I have it but have only worn around the yard this summer doing yardwork. I like the breathability and zipper for a sun hoodie in hot weather. I am not sure how I will like it compared to a more standard sun hoodie like a simms. I need to really exert myself in it.

Can anyone provide an update on performance in hot/humid weather with this hoodie? I'm looking for something I can use in July-Sep in Virginia for working outside and hiking.

Not a lot of evidence (or use) to go on here, but I’d say to me, a more typical sun hoodie material (like on a simms) is generally more comfortable. However if there is a breeze, it really rips through the holes in this thing and feels good. I do also like that I can unzip it part way down too. I’d be torn between wearing this or a Simms while hiking in heat.

Edit: also forgot to say it’s hot and dry here, not humid. So can’t speak to that.
