I got one and it's a vast improvement to previous versions of the super down. Noticeable warmer, more wind resistant and definitely more water resistant, pit zips are great, material seems to be pretty durable and fit is better. previous super down I wore a XLarge, this one is cut better for me and it's a Large with room to layer. It's my go to puffy now.

Mtrecon, are you talking about the new PRO (heaviest down) or the new ULTRA down? Just want to be sure because the fit in the PRO is one thing I am curious about. I wear XXL in most Kuiu jackets except the Yukon, which I wear XL and still have room to layer underneath. I’d like the PRO to be big enough to throw over everything when needed, but not so baggie that it couldn’t be worn without multiple layers, or under the Yukon if wet conditions. Ross, any input on the sizing for the one you ordered?

New Pro is what I was talking about. I wear an XL in most Kuiu jackets and tops, except the Yukon, I wear a Large in it. The pro fit is larger than previous models, I wear a large in it. Fits great under my Yukon, but I'm able to wear it over a Merino 145 and 210 hooded together and it's a good fit. It's about the same fit as a XLarge guide jacket.

I bought one from Giru, used it on my sheep and moose hunts this fall. I agree with all the above plus I like the velcro sleeve cuffs over the elastic on the old one. Much warmer, than the Super Down.

Could you wear the Large PRO over the Large Yukon if needed, or would it need to go under?

Will x3 what as said. Much warmer than the superdown, maybe runs slightly larger than superdown, has very good loft and provides good protection from the wind. A little pricey but definitely like the changes made.also you can wear over Yukon if wanted but snug I have large in both

Is this as good as it appears on paper when considering weight, warmth, pack size, cost?

Also how is the hood coverage and adjustments? I liked it on guide but not so much on kenai, kenai left too much exposed.

Does this jacket have sewn-through or baffled construction to the hold the down in place?

What kind of wet/damp/soaked experiences have you guys had with kuiu puffys? I haven't had any issues with my superdown but I am looking to add a warmer puffy and am considering a synthetic to give me peace of mind for wet environments. I use my puffy gear to supplement my sleep system so pulling dual purpose status also implies dual dependence on it working.

Not trying to derail here, the superdown pro would be on my short list if I go with another down jacket.

Thanks.

I just picked one up and luckily we’re having a cold snap here in Texas to test it out. 24° this morning and damp with 15mph wind - very cold for us. So far I love it. The hood is cut great. I get good coverage/warmth but my vision isn’t obscured. I was out glassing yesterday afternoon till dark and this morning, sitting on a ground chair and other than my hands and face I was pretty warm. I was wearing a Sitka lightweight shirt, Kuiu 210 merino shirt and an old Kuiu down shirt (wish they still made those!) under the Pro jacket and my Guide Jacket on top. Wind chill was down around 13° and I was fine.

I’m not a big hood guy but this one folds inside nicely inside to form a double thickness collar. I may even try to come up with a mod to make it stay like that when I don’t need the hood.

The heavier material on the outside is nice but it’s no what I’d consider tough and I still wouldn’t go brush busting with it. For that, you’re going to need an outer shell. But I will say, it cuts wind far better than my old super down shirt.

Sizing: seems pretty true to my other Kuiu stuff. I wear a Guide jacket in large for a more form fitting jacket with some lighter layers underneath. So, I got the Super Down Pro in large. It’s big enough that I could throw it on over my large Guide jacket with a couple layers under but it’d also be comfortable under the large size Guide jacket. Now, I also have a XL Guide jacket and if I was going to be in really cold weather and wanting to super stack layers, I’d wear my XL Guide jacket to make sure I didn’t compress the loft.

Hope this helps.

Good info. How long did you sit n one place? That seems like way more than I'd be carrying for temps in the teens.
