Kuiu Super Down LT ?

I just ordered this from the recent sale. My brother has this and seemed great and really light. He uses this as an outer layer and I guess some people do the same thing. I know if down is constricted and compacted, typically it loses its purpose from other discussions and reading. I am somewhat in between size so I sized up and most likely could use it either way as a mid or outer. When wearing as an outer I will be stationary, treestand or blind. Definitely won't be walking through anything when wearing them, especially as an outer. What is the consensus as an outer or mid?

I usually put mine on when glassing or sitting. Very rarely moving around. I love mine.

I wear mine as an outer. I use it for around town stuff. I have taken it hunting on one hunt and wore it as an outer there too. Mostly open country and stationary glassing. I did not bust brush. It did fine as an outer. I will say on a day there was 40mph winds I paired it as a mid layer with a Chugach rain jacket and that was choice. The outer layer with the Chugach was great at cutting the wind and then the down LT kept things toasty. I was amazed at how well that worked. It's a great light weight piece.

Awesome. Seems like it will be fine. And fit wise i think I could use it both ways. They are crazy light. Worth it for the sale price for sure.

Any concern about noise from tree stand? Wondering how loud that Nylon/Ripstop is.

It's quieter than the Ultra Down version, but not whitetail quiet, in my opinion.

SG gruman is on sale for 50% the price, $199, I would probably go in that direction. Big kuiu guy myself but found a good deal on a gruman a year ago and haven't looked back. That being said, I have zero experience with the Kuiu down LT jacket so can't provide and apples to apples comparison.

I don't own the ultra down version. It has some noise, but I wouldn't say it's loud. But I wouldn't say it's proximity or fleece quiet. I am also not a whitetail tree stand guy. The times I have hunted from a tree stand for elk I found the forrest and wind created enough noise that I wouldn't hesitate using it as an outerlayer alone and have no worries about being heard. That said your woods and environment may be different.
