KUIU Summit Star 1 Person Tent

I was curious if anyone has used this tent recently since it has been redesigned from the original single wall on the first gen. I like the design, but am worried about bad condensation as the first gen had major condensation issues. I'm not sure by adding the mess interior would eliminate that.

I picked one up before Christmas and will put it through it’s paces over the winter here in Snowdonia before my next backpack elk hunt in August.

I can tell you it pitches easily with the ground sheet attached, I also keep the nest attached and pitch as one. Keep everything dry in crappy weather that way. I can pitch it quicker than my sl3 and bear paw nest and you can pitch it tight as a drum if required.

If the 15d is of the same quality as the sl3 I’ll have every confidence in it as I have had that in some heinous weather.
It is super light for the space and is a palace compared to other one man shelters I have used. The whole lot, fly, G sheet, nest and pegs weighs the same as the sl3 fly and 2 pegs. Can’t remember total weight exactly but it’s around 800 grams. Saved me half a kilo over sl3 fly, nest and pegs.

I’ll update here when I have spent some time in it.

Sorry to post on an old thread. But did you come to a conclusion about the condensation? Is it as bad as the first gen ultra star?

Not had chance for field use yet with lockdown and everything, but will be in a few weeks, ill update then.

Where i will be testing this has some of the highest rainfall in blighty so should be able to comment on condensation.

i had the first gen and it was really bad. the condensation had nowhere to go but inside the bathtub floor, since it was all one piece. otherwise it was a good tent for minimalist use. the new version basically solved all of the issues the first gen had, as you know they separated the fly so now all of the condensation will just drip onto the ground and not "in" the tent.. i am assuming the condensation will be about the same amount, but a lot more manageable, just like any other single wall shelter design.

i have tried a kuiu 2p mountain star, it is a very solid tent and withstood winds of over 40mph.

End of the day, i now use a SO Cimarron and have not looked back. having a stove is the biggest game changer.
keeps your moral up, and keeps you in the hunt longer.

Well, got to use the summit star in some challenging weather.

Pitched them tight to the ground in the best shelter we could find and hunkered down.

Wind got up to 50 odd mph and probably quite a bit higher at times overnight.

It went from dead quite to ‘boom’ all night long with the guy outs twanging like guitar strings when the squalls hit with a mixture of rain and hail, didn’t get much sleep as I’d forgot my ear plugs.

Condensation was absent am, I could feel air moving across my face through the mesh at night so ventilation was good. Might have been different if it was still at this temp.

In the morning a lot of the snow had gone, the tent had kept the pitch well, we did have good ground for the stakes.
