Kuiu Kutana Hybrid 3DeFX vs Kutana Soft Shell

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is other than the hood and the fleece areas on the Hybrid what is the difference between these pieces? Which one is more durable? Will wear this over base layers and a Peloton 200. Which one would you buy? Any first-hand experience or recommendations are great.

I understand the Hybrid is more insulated. However, I am looking at durability as an outer layer. Looking to use it as an outer layer in the mid season.

The Kutana is going to be more durable, more resistant to snags and tears. Outer layer is not very descriptive. For instance my layering system currently consists of merino base with a peloton 240, Kenai ultra, super down pro, axis, and katana rain shell. I will swap out the peloton, kenai, super down and soft-shell depending on temp and wether or not I am hunting out of a backpack.

1. First Lite SS Wick
2. Peloton 200 Hoody
3. Kutana Hybrid
4. Lost Park Parka
5. Kutana Soft Shell
6. Rain Gear

I'll remove or add as needed based on weather. This is what I'm thinking as of now.

The peloton and the hybrid have essentially the same purpose. It looks like a decent place to start and you can make gear changes later based on your needs/likes.

That is the claim. I would say the hybrid is a more versatile piece but no great reason to have both.

My buddy had the hybrid on my last hunt, seems like a really cool layering piece. Keep in mind the insulation is only on the front and shoulders and not on the back to help breathability and heat management under a pack. If using without a pack on it wouldn’t be ideal and you’d likely lose heat from your back.

The only thing I question with these synthetic mid layers is loft degradation over continued use compared to a fleece which id think would be more hardy.

Awesome points. I am planning on using it as active insulation. I elected to go with this one because It'll be more durable than the Kenai and can be worn while I move through the Arizona bush. If I ever get cold while glassing I'll throw on my puffy.

Time will tell. I'm curious to see how it holds up. Kuiu is usually top notch so I'm hopeful.

Looking at getting the hybrid or the kenai ultra, which one should I get?!
