I want to cash in on their sale and the guide jacket is sold out. What would be the next best thing to a guide jacket? Is the Yukon an "everyday" wearer for Elk hunting? Is it noisy?
I am looking for that everyday Elk hunting jacket
Must be for rifle seasons. Would be too warm to wear a jacket every day for archery season. In the last 10 years I've probably worn a jacket once maybe during archery, and that was closing weekend a few years ago.
This. I have been seeing alot of threads lately of people wanting Kuiu soft shells. Soft shells are dead weight to most on here as they don't insulate as well as puffy's and they aren't waterproof. I have never needed anything except baselayer, midlayer, puffy, and rainwear. That combo will solve basically everything you are looking for...may add a vest in there but softshell? Dont see the need.
Guide jacket due to others suggestions. I want an everyday jacket with wind and mild rain proof (not a full rain jacket). Also needs to be tough and quiet so I can hunt with it. I am looking for that everyday Elk hunting jacket
Ever since joining here, I've seen a lot of hate on softshells and how they are pointless. I disagree. I think spending $300+ on a rain jacket is pointless. But also, that depends on the environment you are hunting in and your style. A Kuiu guide type jacket that at $180 with layers does the job when you factor in the fact that a puffy + a rain jacket is going to cost you $500-$600.
