Thought I'd post this in case anyone is in a similar situation. As I mentioned in another thread, I needed a new rain jacket for this fall. I was debating between the Sitka Cloudburst and the Kuiu Yukon. Long story short, when the 4th of July 20% off sale came up, my decision was made. Just received the Yukon jacket and the Super down jacket yesterday. First impression is that both are very well made and seem to be a bit 'beefier' in regard to zippers, etc. than the Sitka. The Yukon hood doesn't 'fold' into the collar like the Cloudburst, but don't think that's a big issue. If you're wearing the jacket, you probably want the hood available anyway.
On to the sizing-- just for reference, I'm 6'1" 242 lbs. I lift on average 3 days per week, so would say I have a somewhat developed chest/shoulder area. I normally wear a 2xl for best fit. However, knowing that both Sitka and Kuiu are designed as an athletic fit, I was uncertain what size to go with in the rain jacket. I typically prefer a 'looser' fit so I can wear the jacket over heavier items. I had the opportunity to try on a Sitka Cloudburst 2xl at our local Sportsmans Warehouse and found it to fit well over a t-shirt, but was concerned it would be too tight if wearing over a vest or 'puffy'. So, when all was said and done, I ordered the Yukon in 3xl and the down jacket in 2xl.
Both items arrived yesterday and both fit like I had hoped. I tried the down jacket over just a merino layer and it is not too big nor too small. If it was any smaller though, it would be too tight for my liking. Will have to see how it feels over a base layer and wool shirt. The Yukon jacket fits well over just the light merino layer as well as over the down jacket. Not too loose or too tight.
So, final analysis, I'm very pleased with the quality, the price(especially with the 20% off) and most importantly the fit. If I had bought the Cloudburst, I would have gone with the 3xl and probably been just as happy. Now the real test will come in a couple months when I get a chance to wear it in 'real world' conditions.
