Hello all. Preparing for my first elk hunt , late Sept. in Idaho and after doing much research, I think I'm going with KUIU lightweight clothing. So I have a couple questions for you guys.

1. How is the fit? Run small or large? Im 6' 165, usually L shirts and 31x34 pants.

2. Seems like everything is backordered. Whats the usually timeline as far as when you place your order, how long is the wait?

To say I'm excited for this trip would be a major understatement!!! :) Have my pack and ordered my Salomon boots and Kelty tent yesterday. Let the spending begin!!!!

Thanks guys!!!

Kuiu can be inconsistent with size from what I've read but in general fairly true to size. Here are the exceptions judging from what I've seen as I don't have any cause they run too short for me (I have tried a couple):

Alpine pants: Full size too big in the waist

Kenai: full size too small (designed to be tight as it is intended to be worn underneath an outer layer)

SD: half size small (same as above)

Hats: not enough "volume" in general, I have personal experience with the Icon and Guide Beanie and have a 7.75" head; if you 7.25" or smaller these will work, but you will need to try the new Pro hats if you have a bigger head.

Tiberon: I personally thought it was too small in the shoulders/arms and big in the torso; I read this was changed as they used to be correctly sized a couple years ago.

Pelaton: I have the 130 LS and feel like it is fairly true to size, maybe a touch small but not enough to complain about. However there have been people complaining that they feel they run a half size small.

As far as backorder goes, I have had mainly good experiences. I have rarely had to wait more than a month and as Jason says it is a seasonal business, so I would suspect that they will ensure that everything makes it back in stock by Sept. That being said, I know my dad has had Yukon Gaiters on backorder as a Christmas present for me since last November.

I would suggest ordering what you want so when the stuff comes back in stock, it gets shipped to you right away. Also with back orders, you get free shipping. Remember it's an athletic fit. I have the guide jacket in medium. I'm 5'6 @ 170lbs. It fit perfect. Also I have the attack pants on back order

I have heard good things about them, but these wait time are terrible. Ordered a set of Attack Vias on March 27th and they keep dangling the carrot in front of my nose. I'm starting to think I should have bought first lite.

I'd say it's true to size for the most part, but it is an athletic fit. I just talked to them the other day about backorder time on some shirts and they said they planned to have everything in stock by the end of July.

I hear what your saying. The first set of clothing I bought was first lite. I'm extremely happy with them. They performed great last year in SD. I ordered kuiu to have a second set.

I have had a mix of their clothing and for me everything has been true to size except the Peleton. I had to size up on the Peleton 240 because the thumb hole sleeves were too short. I am 6"1 about 180lbs and a large in clothes with KUIU or any other company.

As far as the backorders just know what you are getting into. You get free shipping in back orders which is nice. I actually order 2 sizes when back ordered since I am not paying for it and I can send the other back for about $5. Worth it to me because if you need another size they may be sold out.

I have never waited more than a few weeks on back order. For the fit, it is a layering system with a slight athletic fit. Some things are made to be wore under other items so sizing does seem strange but I order xl in everything and have not had any issues. Firstlight is a good option but they have wait times too. I ordered a few items last August and just got an email saying they canceled the order due to stock. Everyone has issues but the two companies make good stuff.

As others have stated true to fit but an athletic fit for sure. I ordered a pair of Attack pants for my dad in March. They are for Fathers Day. Guess what? Fathers Day is passed and still no pants. I own a fair amount of their stuff and it is good but their availability is far worse then Sitka or First Lite. If you need something within a couple months then I would spend the extra money and get Sitka or First Lite. If you are not in a hurry then order the KUIU but some guys are waiting 5+ months for gear.

Figured I would update this. I placed an order for shirt that was out of stock and wasn't really expecting to get it for about a month. I got an email this morning saying it was shipped! Must've been luck--2 day backorder wait

I just cancelled my pants order and the guy said they just got merino stuff in. He said ownership hasn't given them a lead time on the rest of the back order stuff yet.
