Looking to buy one or the other of these here very soon. The Chinook is in the outlet and in my size for layering. I have read the reviews and they both seem to be great for both jackets. Yes it would be nice to have a hood but not sure its worth a extra $60. Any opinions would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.

What time of year will you be using it?

Both jackets are very different, the Chinook is more an early season archery piece that you could use in a layering system. The Guide is heavier with a hood that is more of a late season jacket.

I would go with the Chinook but also add a puffy and a hard shell(rain jacket) in addition to base layers to cover all weather situations as the Chinook doesn't really offer much insulation but is nice to wear when temps are in the 50's-70's

I have both and agree with everything said above. The Chinook is not nearly as wind or weather resistant as the Guide.

Frankly, I don’t think the Chinook is much of a jacket. There’s a lot of pieces of clothing that will do what it does, and they cost a lot less and don’t weigh nearly as much.

I have both and agree with what has been said. If just going with one, it would be the Guide for more versatility.
