Going on a elk hunt the first week of November in northern Montana. Are these pants going to be a good fit? Plenty warm? Possibly to warm and going to need two sets of pants? Going to be a pack in hunt on horses with a base camp.

I think they would be a perfect fit for November/December. I used them exclusively on a high mountain snowy New Mexico hunt in December and they performed in a wide range of conditions and physical exertion. Block the wind well, held up to light and heavy snow, kept me warm as I sat in the snow against a log and waited on a bull to step out from the timber for nearly 2 hours, and when on the move they dumped excess heat well from the hip vents. I’d say from mid October on they are about the best pant on the market. Sitka timberlines would be my second choice.

I'll second what grizz said.
I used them in Colorado last fall on a elk hunt, temps from 28-65.
Bring a pair on long underwear, but you probably won't need them if you're moving at all.
The zippers on the thigh work great for dumping heat.
Best pants I own!

When hunting Montana during Thanksgiving week, I wear either my guides or my Cabelas Woolitmate pants depending on which side of the zero I am in. I am getting the Axis to try this fall to see how it compares to those. I also wear Kryptek Vellus and Cadog II pants and can't say anything bad about them either as far as cold weather pants.
