Kuiu Axis Pant Size vs Attack

Hello,

I recently picked up the axis set of clothing - jacket, pants, gloves - and everything seems to fit great but the pants. I have owned kuiu attack pants in the past in a size 36, but I purchased these axis pants in a 36 and they have a noticeably loose waist and thigh area (feels like a 35 or 36 pant instead of 34). I am a true 34-32 or 34-34 in most pants, so I was used to ordering a size up for attack pants to accommodate this. I was wondering if anyone else had experience with the axis fitting more loose than the attack pants, and if they then fit true to size? I think I’m going to exchange these for a 34 but wanted to hear some thoughts as this is my first experience outside of the attack pant lineup from kuiu. Is this just a particular item that fits different or do all the other pants fit true to size? Overall build for reference - 6’ 200lbs, XL in Kuiu tops, 34 jean size.

I’ve had this experience across multiple lines of Kuiu pants. The attack, talus hybrid, and tiburon all have different fits for me. Attacks are a bit snug in 32 but manageable. Tiburon fit very well in 32 but extremely loose in 34. Talus hybrid fit very well in 34 for me. I also layer in the talus so that helps, but even without layering in 34 on the talus they still fit better than the Tiburon did in 34.

I wear true to size in all.
I’m 6’1” 215-220 waist measures 35” and I wear 34x34 cinch jeans or carhart pants.

KUIU I’ve always worn 34 attacks they are a tighter fit but a peloton 97 will fit under.
34 Tiburon fit very slightly looser but I think that is by design for airflow.
34 guide have the most room but by nature of a late season pant they should for peloton 97 or thicker under.
34 alpine fit the same.

Axis I size up to 36. 34 works but they are tighter than I want for a heavier late season pant. My legs are bulky in the thigh.
Kutana 34 waist is right but the thighs don’t fit at all, 36 or 36 tall are big in the waist and the thigh almost works but not quite. Can’t wear kutana.
Talus 34 fits but again I size up to 36 for the little warmer and mid to late season pant.

I’ve always said to measure your waist size with a soft tape pulled as tight as you want the KUIU pant to fit and order that size.

I found the axis hybrids to be a bit tighter in the waste than my attacks of the same size, not super tight but tighter. and the legs are baggy, I like them though.

So I tore the tags off of mine and went for a hike.

I wish I’d just gotten a new pair of the guide pants, I wouldn’t have bought these had I been able to try them first. I got them on the sale so whatever but I won’t buy them again.

As I am Canadian I can’t exchange but I have a 34 on the way and I’ll sell whatever pair I dislike more. Planning on doing an in depth reply on the size differences and comparisons to common denim models to help others.

The fit in the waist is fine, these just seem tight in the legs and loose in the calf/lower leg.

I tried the talus hybrid pant from the sale, fits semi close to the guide but feels a bit odd. Should have stuck with the guide , maybe I will like them more in the rain next fall.

Yeah I feel sort of ripped off. I love the guides, I don’t hate the axis but I wish I’d just got another pair of guides. While I’m complaining, the zipper pockets on the axis are much smaller than the guides, sort of hard to get my hands in them.

Seems like they are discontinuing the axis since right now, they are still the same price as they were during the sale while guides are back to normal pricing. I thought I was getting a great deal getting the axis for 150 instead of 250 but maybe not. I should have spent 160 and had a dope new pair of guide pants.

I am currently wearing Kutanas in 34R (probably will go 34 short next time).
Attacks, 32S
Axis Hybrid, 32S.

I usually wear 32x32 jeans.

Edit to clarify, those all fit great.
