What pants would be better for a late August early September alpine hunt, POW Alaska?

Thinking the Merino 185 for a base layer...what do you guys think?

When do they usually have base layers and pants available to purchase?

Your guide pant is more for late season hunts &or when the temps get cold. I would run with the attack.........for that time of year and as to availability. The gear is in high demand, if you see it available best to place the order and not second guess, otherwise will be out of stock and it could be a longggg wait.

I did a Dall sheep hunt last year. I had both along. When push came to shove, I put on the Guide pants. I suspect that the Attack's would have worked well, but I erred on being warm. I was there the first 10 days of September and the weather was lows around 20 and highs in the 30 and 40's. The weather can change in a matter of minutes and your need to be ready. If you take the Attacks, make sure you have good rain gear (should anyway). The Guide pants are definitely warmer and as Ross stated, are designed for colder weather.

Like Ross said it has to be dang cold for me to wear the guide pants(below 25) I wore the attacks down to 10 with light merinos on last November spot and stalk deer hunting.

I'm making the same decision. I'm going on a BC mt goat hunt in early November. We will be doing alot of hiking and backpacking. For now, I'm thinking of wearing attack pants with marino base layer. I will probably just get both and decide what to use when I arrive.

I have both as well. Guide pants don't come out till the snow falls or its supposed to be cold....like in the 20's and below cold. The attacks are bitchin' warm weather pants like everyone says.

I sweat my balls off with Attacks in sub freezing temps....No way I could wear them for August or Sept hunting.

Going to try the new Valhalla's when they become available.

I'd vote for the attacks as well. They've been very easy to wear a light layer under if need be and have worked great my last couple years of oct/nov. western hunts.
