Kuiu and First lite rain gear question: Kuiu Kenai for insulation?

I was looking to pick up new rain gear for this upcoming season.

I was looking at Kuiu Chugach. I was told that is the better way to go because the Yukon is too "heavy" by some people who have both. This is for Montana and Idaho, Wyoming archery and of course would then be used for later gun season.

An alternative would be the Krypteck Posidon which is cheaper $ or the New First like raingear which is more expensive $$$.

I also was looking to buy a puffy insulation layer. I have a Sitka puffy with primaloft which is not that warm - only ok for early warm archery season. I was looking at the Kuiu Kenai jacket to replace that as a warmer but yet light piece of kit. I have an REI down jacket I also pack so I am not interested in the Kuiu Down jacket.

Thanks for the input.

I have both the kenai and the chugach. I wear them all the time as an insulation and shell. Both great pieces that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

The kenai isn't going to be that much lighter than a lightweight 60g primaloft puffy. It's a noticeable boost putting a shell over that type of insulation, but I wouldn't bank on that much of a warmth bump compared to the Sitka puffy.

The Kryptek Posidon is a great rain jacket for the $$$ especially for areas that do not see constant rain. I would highly recommend it. I've busted oak brush in it and not torn it so it is durable for how light weight but I'd be careful with any light weight rain jacket busting brush.

But for colder weather I would recommend the First Light or the Kifaru puffy, they'll be warmer the a light weight insulation piece and both shed moisture well. I always have my Kifaru puffy and Kryptek Posidon in my pack even during archery season. Both the Kifaru and First Lite are very durable.

dont have a set yet but the Yukon is marketed as a daily wear item that is more durable than most rain gear. the way i read it is that you can live in it for days.its just a shell. i can see it getting hot in early fall conditions but im wondering if you wear a light merino t that time of year with the vents open if you could get by. the Chugach from what ive read is more prone to tears and pricey as well.id rather pay extra for the durability and manage heat.

I have the Kryptek koldo rain set, it's well built but heavy. I mainly use it for scouting on the atv to block wind. I also have the kuiu Yukon and the new FL Seak Stormtight jacket. The Yukon seems well built but a tad heavy (liter than the Kryptek ). The FL seak seems really thin even though it's 3.5 layers thick. I wouldn't want to be busting through brush with the stormtight. I want the chugach jacket from Kuiu as well. Out of the 3 I mentioned I own, I would definitely pick the Kuiu Yukon.

I also just ordered the kuiu superdown jacket %20 off atm. I would buy the Chugach and pair it with a puffy. This review is what sold me on purchasing the Kuiu suoerdown over others: Kuiu Super Down Insulating Layer Gear Review - Alaska Outdoors Supersite

Another thing to consider when looking at synthetic insulation like Primaloft, is the type of Primaloft product they are using (Gold, Silver, Blend, etc - there are dozens of different types of Primaloft) in addition to the amount of insulation in that particular garment (grams per m2). My two cents.

Get the chugach for sure as its a solid quality jacket that will last you years. As for puffy's id go with first lite uncompahgre.
