Thought I would share my recent experience with the folks at Kryptek.
I had a Cerdic II hoodie in the closet for most the time over the last year and a half I've owned it. Sad to say. I did a few hunts with it and Last year I was barely able to touch the outdoors.
So after a couple washes I did notice the pilling of the material. I had remembered reading about this topic and problem awhile ago on Rokslide. So after a few washes and it getting worse I thought "dangit" I've got one too. So I thought it couldn't hurt to reach out to them and see if I could send it back for a replacement. However I didn't really press too much because it had been so long and this piece was definitely out of any warranty and I realized the time for this problem may have passed.
Here are some email excerpts from them :
"My first question is how can you keep any piece of Kryptek gear locked in a gear closet for years? I can't get anything new and cool and not find a reason to wear it. Of course, I'm a girl and rattling new bags from any shopping location bring a toothy grin to my face. So, you finally get the garment out to wear it and I hate that you were disappointed with the performance and look after washing. We did have an issue with this fabric in some units. Most importantly, our customers are the foundation of Kryptek and making sure your gear performs and looks good before and after washing is imperative. Let's get you handled, but only if you promise not to lock it in a gear closet for years. We want a picture of you in your new jacket anywhere from battlefield to backcountry so we know you're putting it to good use. Send us your contact info including phone number and delivery address, and most importantly a like item with same price or similar so we can get a replacement shipped to you. It would help us to know where you got the jacket, size, cost (a receipt would be epic, but it's safe to assume you probably don't have and that's ok). I will speak to Angela as to whether we want this jacket back to review. If so an RA (call tag) will be issued for you to send back.
Let me know if you have any questions and thanks for being a Kryptek customer. We value you, your patronage, and best-in-class customer service. "
So with this response I gladly accepted and I picked a Hoplite 1/4 zip Merino Top and asked them if that was ok and comparable for them.
And she said :
"Thank you for taking your time to reply and so enthusiastically. People like you just make me smile. But I can only look at email for 30 more minutes cause there is some final four basketball on! I'm having serious college football withdrawal (Geaux Tigers-LSU). Yes, I know, a girl that loves sports. My husband digs it!!
No worries about receipt or anything! We will get you the Hoplite top and bottom. How does that sound? Let me know what sized bottom you need too!
Thanks for being such a great Kryptek fan. Please share your adventures with that gear out of the gear closet. It's so hard nowadays to get free time isn't it? That's why when we get it it is so special. Enjoy the mountain. Idaho is beautiful as I have the pleasure of being there often with the sweet Kryptek team. Greatest bunch of guys and gals. Some real heroes in that building too between the owner Butch and his wingman, Josh (literally). The flew the Apaches in the Iraq war and dropped 43/47 Hellfire missiles. I have such respect for our men and women in uniform. They allow me to lay my head down at night and not worry about our safety and mostly the safety and protection of my little girl and other children across this great nation.
Have a great season, year, and make every day count !
Warriors together,
Shelly "
Long story short. A great experience with a great company in my opinion and I didn't expect them to go that far above and beyond for me.
