Kowa 554 (and prob many other spotters) Pinch Obj Cover

Got a new to me Kowa 554 a few weeks ago and was annoyed by no obj cover. Ordered a Marsupisl cover but thought a 5.5 oz cover was defeating the purpose of a lightweight spotter.

I then remembered the sweet pinch cover from my Swaro ATC, went to Amazon and they are everywhere. Measured the inside of the baby Kowa at 57mm, so ordered a 58mm and crossed my fingers. Works great!

Figured I’d share because they have a ton of sizes and if someone needs a cover I bet they could find one that works with about any scope. The pinch tabs are sorta threaded so they grab the threads inside the obj.

Will have to give that a try. I’ve emailed the guy at scope bumpers about making an objective cover for the baby Kowas/Swaros. I think that would be an awesome solution.

So far I really like it. I much prefer a finger focus of the Kowas to the body focus of the latest Swaro/Vortex mini spotter offerings. I would have went with a 55S but I didn’t think a slight improvement in glass and FOV was worth more than double the price and 5 more oz of weight for my use. The bigger eyepiece would be nice but I’ll likely be using it to digiscope more than I will with just my eyes.

Thanks for the tip. I have used a pinch on an ED50, but without a cover in my pack it would fall off.

I don't understand why there is not a market for someone to make a cap that just covers the lenses, weighs nothing, and will stay on while in a pack. I don't need a cover for the body.

How quiet is that pinch in cover?

I’m using the one that came with the 554. Same as you I’ve attached it to the spotter using some elastic. But if it bumps into the spotter or the tripod when it’s hanging down it’s loud!

It'll likely be just as loud. I needed a solution since the original owner of mine had lost his.

My 553 has a cover, but I bought one of these to have as a backup. Thanks for the info.
