I am going from a double sink to a single sink. Looking at the picture below I’m hoping I can just cap the top hole and connect my garbage disposal to the side hole, which is where it was connected originally. Does this work versus repiping it all?

Exactly what I was gonna say.

But just replacing above the trap will be easy, and no mess.
Yeah you guys are smarter than me. Next problem, the disposal hits the horizontal pipe so that plan is a fail regardless. 😔

It hasn’t gotten the best of me yet, but we’re getting there!

Looking at, you should be able to cut the drain out, and leave about a inch or so from the main stack and install the disposal and reinstall a p-trap and work back.

Or convince your wife that her old sink is just fine and no need to be like every othere basic white girl with their farm sinks. (No, I haven't convinced my wife of this so good luck)

The disposal drain hole is higher than the stack drain, not by much though. Is that enough elevation?

It’s going to be real close if I can get a P trap installed between the stack and the disposal.

The height won't matter once the p trap iss installed. (A masterplumber might say differently, but never had a issue and multiple times have installed disposals this way) but dang, you don't have alot of room.
