Kimber’s don’t shoot for s**t?

A lot of excuses here fellas, haha. I’m just sayin if you want to brag on the internet, maybe don’t show a 3 shot group (coincidence) in the middle of nowhere 👌 🤷‍♂️ 😂
Those Kimber’s are perfectly zero’d. The only reason those shots aren’t perfectly grouped at the point of aim is the shooter’s inability to shoot a lightweight rifle. 😂😉

The whole point of my post was just to express my feelings on the Kimber rifles that I've shot over the years and their accuracy. I have a fair number of lighter wt. rifles, to include a couple T3 lites and a Fieldcraft (which all shoot very well IMO also), but they don't shoot any better than all of the Kimber's that I've shot. I typically only shoot a few rounds from a particular rifle when I'm at the range, and I typically only shoot 3 shot groups. If I think a rifle is grouping well, after firing one or two, three shot groups, I put it away and call it good. I don't consider myself a great rifle shooter, and I'm not at all a long range shooter, especially when it comes to hunting, and I also don't have the time or money that it takes, to spend all day at the range firing hundreds of rounds. If I can put 3 rounds in a little area at 100 yards, then take it out to 200-300 yards and do the same thing, I'm good with that, and I move on. This rifle will be accompanying me to Kodiak next month on a goat hunt, and if I'm not successful, it will be because of me and not the rifle..

Have 2 myself 270 wsm Mtn ascent and a Montana 3006. Both shoot awesome my 270 wsm will shoot elds in the same hole. Several friends have a mixture of Kimbers and all shoot great as well

I‘m not sure trying to validate this but I’ll give it a kick. I’ve never shot to hit a bullseye with my hunting rifles. When I sight in it’s 3” high a 100. When I’m doing load development I just need to hit paper so I can assess group size. Where it hits is irrelevant if it’s on paper. If a rifle, load and shooter can put them all to the same POI it’s consitent and a simple adjustment of the scope will align the POI with the POA.
After I have a consistent load I’ll load up 50-300 rounds for the rifle. I annually shoot paper to put it 3” high at a hundred. Then I don’t shoot paper again unless it’s not shooting to POA. I’ll take a rifle every time I’m out in the bush and when I find a safe place I’ll shoot out to 400 yards at something. Usually rocks against a cliff, burm or hillside. Wherever I find softball to basketball sized targets I can see the impact on and I know its safe I’ll pull the rifle out and load the mag. Choose a bipod, tree, stump, log or pack to shoot off of, choose three or four targets and engage them from a standard field position. Once I shoot the first shot the rest are shot as fast as I can cycle the bolt and get on target. I push myself to shoot accurately but with the mindset that it’s an animal and I need my follow up shot(s) at max accurate speed. In a normal day out wheeling the Jeep in the bush I’ll do that three or four times. Sometimes rested and sometimes I’ll run first to get my heart rate up. I also shoot every fox, coyote and wolf I see that is legally allowed to be shot and I’ll also take my big game rifles to shoot gophers a few times in the spring for a little more practice. I don’t run around shooting bullseyes on targets and don’t have much use for proper range work as I’ve never shot a big game animal off a cement bench.
My .22 is sighted in to shoot bullseyes as it’s used to head shoot grouse and on gophers. My .22 centerfires are also usually .5-1” high at a hundred so often near a bullseye.

I think guys are misconstruing "accurate" vs "precise." Bottom line is that guys are shooting these rifles and getting tiny groups. Who cares where the group is on paper? Im pretty sure anyone with the ability to stack rounds can make adjustments to put the group wherever they want.

I swear people have this mindset that the scope has to be zeroed in order to group bullets.

Why don’t they?

Why don’t they?
Free country? Idk. All jokes aside I dont dial every time Im shooting new ammo. I prefer to have my POI away from my aim point so I have a consistent dot thats not punched with holes. When it comes time to kill some shit and my scopes off ill make adjustments to hit my POA.

And to add to that, ive done this on purpose
3-shots isn’t a group and isn’t a measure of precision. anyone that shoots a decent amount knows you’ll luck into groups in the 0.1s or 0.2s or 0.3s. It happens. That’s not the baseline precision of you or your rifle or your load.

And guys are only lying to themselves with all this “I try too many loads to hit the target” silliness. Accuracy matters. And if you are looking to brag about how great you and all your great stuff is, at least hit the target.

Or don’t.....I’m liking this thread 😂
You definitely make a valid point. I think the 3 shot group idea is largely psychological. Ran into it with a good friend today actually. If you get 3 touching sweet end it on a good note before number 4 isnt on target.... If one shot is an inch away shit then that ones a flier or it was pulled etc etc. 5 or more is definitely going to give a true story of what the rifle is capable of.

Accuracy is definitely important but if someone is capable of shooting sub moa then they are most certainly capable of putting that group wherever they want on the paper. I dont think bullet holes need to be near a bullseye to showcase a rifles capability. Nor the shooter for that matter. Obviously they can shoot halfway decent, even if it is only 3 rounds and a little luck is involved. But if OCD kicks in when someone posts a picture of a ragged hole 4 inches away from an orange dot then cool. I'd give someone a friendly jab about "missing the target" too but at the end of the day, the gun is dialed and the shooter is gtg. Obviously the scope will be adjusted before any sort of hunt...

.

Because next week I'm going to try a new load. I may even try a new scope. Why would I waste time and ammo trying to "zero" every round when I am going to shoot a new one next week? When its time to commit to one load I "zero" it and go hunting.

Hmm. So the load you choose to zero won’t duplicate it? Gotcha.

lol. Ok

Ive been extremely happy with my 7-08 hunter, getting 3/4"
with factory Hornady 139g. Haven't tried hand-loading yet for it though

For what it's worth, I'm a fan of the five shot group. Keeps me honest.

I guess that I'm pleased to see this thread (including the drift?) because my next rifle is likely to be one of three options - an Adirondack in .308, a Mountain Ascent in .280 AI, or a Mountain Ascent in .30-06.

Finally reduced trigger pull on my Mtn Ascent...I think it made a big difference compared to my shooting with factory setting (heavy). I also found my front action screw was only at 20 in-lbs with rear at 45 in-lbs. After adjusting trigger, I set front action screw to 45 in-lbs and rear to 35 in-lbs. I think this also had an affect upon group size.

Attached is my target from today. I took photo of 3 shot group then added two more shots. (Yes, I know...only 5 shot group).

This might be my all time favorite rifle. Topped with Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42. I'm impressed with this glass so far...but it is SFP.

Think I need to buy all the factory ammo boxes with the same lot number :D

Update: Went to 200 yard range after work today. Added 3rd pic below. Stiff (est. 15mph) winds from right, no hold correction. 3 shot group (I know, not 10) holding .55 MOA. Need to start stretching her legs more.

I have a Mountain Ascent in .308 that stacks them at 300, and a new .243 Montana (with a snapped extractor [see thread on here about that]) that also shoots lights out.

They are just so dang handy that I'll continue to scoop them as deals come up, broken extractors or not lol.

I purchased my first Kimber Montana back in 2004 and since then, I’ve been on a personal quest to find a Kimber that doesn’t shoot for shit, just like all the ones that I read about online. Now, 16 years and 9 Kimber light wt. rifles later, I just continue to strike out. Had my latest Kimber (I bought it about six or eight months ago), out to the range today and we’ll, it looks like my quest continues.
.308 Adirondack shooting 130gr. Factory Barnes TTSX ammo. 4 shot group at 100 yards (shot all within about a minute or 2), then took it out to 300 yards and fired two more rounds. Two rounds about 1 1/2” apart at 300 yards. This, coming from a rifle that’s sporting a 16” barrel and weighs just over 5 1/2 lbs. all up, as she goes into the field.

I’m getting kind of tired of reading about all the Kimber lightweight rifles that won’t shoot, because for the life of me, I can’t seem to find one.
