Kimber vs Barrett

Sorry to make this my first post. Have shot a Ruger M77 in 22-250 since 1980 something. Has accounted for a few truckloads of c oyotes. Thinking about finally retiring it and picking up a Kimber Montana or Barrett Fieldcraft.
The Ruger has a 1-14 twist, so does the Montana, that limits me to 55gr. Barrett has 1-8 which kinda excites me.
My question is the Barrett worth approximately 400-500 more.
Thanks

I prefer the 3 position safety as well. I've handled both guns and they seem comparable, just can't decide.
Thanks

Spur,

I have a Fieldcraft in 6mm creedmoor that shoots great right out of the box......it has accounted for two wolves and a few coyotes already. I like the rifle but don't like the open slot along the bolt [snow and spruce needles enter the magazine box] and I also prefer CRF and 3 position safety of my Kimbers.

My decade old Kimber is some Varmint model [wood stock SS barrel] 22-250 with 1:12 twist so I can shoot 55 TTSX or 60 NPs.......it's been flawless and very reliable and that action is better suited for my purpose. This barrel is near the end of it's life and will be replaced with a shorter 20" 1:8.

I have two other 22-250s [R700 custom target 1:8 and a Dakota 97 1:7] and have worn out two others but for my purpose, I'd never go back to 1:14 or even a 1:12. The 6 CM seemed like a great option for heavier bullets for wolves and caribou and is proving out.

I also have a couple 243's, couple 270's and a few others mixed in. I've always had a thing for the 250, since the 70's growing up with a remington 788, loved that gun.
Thanks for the feedback

Why not rework the Ruger?

Not to discourage a rifle purchase. I actually think you should do both: buy a Kimber and rework the Ruger. That would about equal the cost of the Barrett. I love spending other people's money.

I am on my 2nd year with the Fieldcraft chambered in 6.5 and have nothing negative to say about it. Would not hesitate to buy it again.

Have you handled both? The grip on the stocks are different angles, with the Barrett being more closed than the Kimber. I prefer this and would actually love it to be even more vertical, other prefer the more traditional grip of the Kimber.

A potential benefit of rebarreling the Kimber is you could get a 1:7 or 1:6.5" twist barrel and shoot the 80-90gr .224 bullets out of it for some nice windbucking abilities.

Yes I have handled both and shot a kimber that a friend has. I'm in no hurry to buy, just getting opinions from folks that have or had both guns

Kimber has horrible customer service. If you get a good one and don't need them great if not good luck. I would go with a Barrett if they chamber in a round you are interested in.

I had great experience with Kimber customer service. The finish was coming off my Mountain Ascent. They put a new stock on with no problem.

Dealt with kimber customer service for both pistols and rifles.

No problems getting a hold of folks and getting stuff squared away.

Our gun season comes in this weekend, buddy stopped needing help sighting in his Browning X bolt in 270. After shooting it, kinda liked it. Done some checking online and seen it comes with a 1-9 twist in 22-250. Anyone have any bad things to say about a X bolt

Bhahaha oh yeah about that....I do need that back by next summer ;)

You’re welcome to give the Barrett a test drive in the same fashion.

I was in similar quandary and bought a Kimber.

After my experience with Kimber, I sent my Ruger to Douglas to get it rebarreled with a #1 contour 8 twist and when it comes back it will go to MPI Custom to be restocked with a Microlite Kevlar stock and blind magazine.
