Getting started with a lightweight Kimber build and it looks like there's a potential easy button for a stock and DBM...The used Hunter I bought didn't come with a magazine, so I wanted to investigate this first before spending $50 on a hokey 3rd magazine. This is what I've found so far about dropping one in an R700 stock:
  • The screw spacing for the Kimber is only .065" longer than R700 SA.
  • Kimber's recoil lug sits a little further back, but that's an easy fix.
  • The ejection port doesn't quite match up, another easy fix
  • Bolt handle lines right up
  • Remington has the extra safety cutout that could be filled in
  • The biggest issue is that the R700 BM appears to sit ~.200" forward. Still need to look at a couple more samples and take an exact measurement. This is a less easy fix that would require modifying the bottom metal or a significant notch in the Kimber feed ramp, and would still result in a loss of max COAL.
Has anyone else messed with this? I've got the stuff to modify the Hunter stock, but don't want to put hours into it if better DBM is possible. The Rokstok Lite will supposedly offer a Kimber inlet, but who knows when that might be available or what bottom metal it will use.

I have no experience with adapting the Hunter to a different model stock, but Wayne York at Oregunsmithing will inlet for the Kimber Hunter, and retain the factory detachable mag if you wanted something straight forward.

Regarding other DBM options - maybe contact Wayne and see what he says?

It's good to know that some gunsmiths will inlet for them. I'm trying to keep this gunsmith-free to avoid the eternities long lead times. I have high hopes that some form of AICS DBM will work.
I'm also looking at the possibility of inletting Magpul's bottom metal into the factory Hunter stock.
Hopefully I'll get more time to play with an R700 SA stock tomorrow morning or evening to get hard measurements and a better idea of what modifications could be made.

My son and I got so sick and tired of the lack of aftermarket stock options for kimber rifles... we've been working on a 3D Printed stock design this past 7 months or so. Got one custom 22creed kimber 84m built a couple months ago, and it shot lights out. Almost finished with our "gen 2" design that will be a drop in fit for my factory 84m rifles. Using a carbon fiber composite filament ... Rigidity of the stock is way better than the factory mountain ascent stocks, and I can build in features that I prefer (pistol grip, arca rail, removable stock, take aics mags, etc). Depending on much of this expensive filament I have left, and how well it shoots... I was going to make a few extra stocks for friends and family... so I could probably post a couple in the classifieds if anyone was interested.
