Kimber or LAW?

So I have been searching for a 280ai. No hurry, looking for a good deal on a lightweight rifle. I have not found anything that appeared to be better for the money than a Kimber. I really want to stay under $1500 if I can but could go more.

So this just came up but is a bit heavier than a Montana. I kind of wanted to be 6lbs or under. However, I don't shoot that much and after reading a lot lately I think the more weight may be better for me and it would still be a good reasonable weight for a carry rifle. I want to shoot more but I tend to lean to archery or ML hunts.

So, go with the Kimber or pick this up? Just talked to him and have a few hours to decide.

I have a Montana in 308 and I’ll be honest - I wouldn’t want a Montana in anything but a short action offering. I’m accurate with it to 500, which is all I expected out of the gun anyway.

You say you don’t shoot much - I’m here to tell you that a sub 6lb LA rifle of any sort has a much greater chance of giving you a flinch.

There's no bad answer. Either gun will likely treat you well. I wouldn't lose sleep over the extra oz

I just think the kimber is better suited to short action, purely personal preference but if I was getting a long action, I probably would look for something other than a kimber.

I’m waiting to hear back from them when they are shipping. I was dead set on a kimber MA in 280ai but now I’m leaning towards the field craft now that it’s in that caliber

have you checked out the kimber sale at cabela's? hard to beat that price for new and light weight. the 280ai is one of the calibers on sale.

my SIL has a LAW and honestly, I am not impressed in any way (except for the model 70 action of course) I've had my "go arounds" with Kimber over time and swore them off THEN this last August I relented and bought one of their HUNTER models (I wanted a drop out magazine) in 280 AI, because I read several forum reviews that were saying they were very good shooters, so anyway I bought one, started with 140 Accubond loads and shot a speed goat in the head at 365 in WY so to say the least I was impressed, tried 160 Accubond loads and POW, several great loads right out of the chute, killed 3 adult cows late season WY, all 1 shot kills, longest was 604 yd - I am hooked now and for $700 ?? What's not to like about that ? BTW, buy an extra mag or two, at $40-45 (about the same as Tikka mags) because if you can lose it you WILL lose it and also a lot easier on the fingertips in the cold IF you do find that you must reload in a "firefight"

I passed on the LAW. I need to figure out when that Fieldcraft will be available. Honestly thinking of rechambering a Tikka. They are such good shooters and that action is hard to beat.

Are they gonna start the Fieldcraft in 280 or 280 AI ? My son has a 6.5 CM FC, very well done but I just cannot make myself ever use an action that doesn't lock the bolt when locked and loaded, I know … I seldom, if ever, carry with one in the pipe but I've had to backtrack twice to pick up rounds on the ground and that's twice too many for me
After springing for a HUNTER in 6.5 CM for my grandson's first rifle and now this .280 AI I am convinced that Kimber corrected their problems, but then that's just me ....

Very well crafted and accurate.

I have a LAW Professional Model early 3 digit serial number 6.5 Creedmoor. Had to send it back for a bad trigger while there they rebedded it. It’s a shooter and I couldn’t be happier. They were great to work with.

Man i’m Turning Into the resident know it all lately jumping in on every thread but...

I’d pick the gun with the 8 twist and biggest mag box.

Tikka rebarrel wins.. and 6 pounds is a nice place to be for that powder column.
