I recently picked up a Kimber mountain ascent subalpine chambered in 280 Ackley improved. My first try it handles and it shoots amazing and now I'm trying to figure out what scope to pair it with. I currently have a Leupold vx3 2.5-8x36. but I'm thinking about a few other school options

1. Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 4a
2. Leupold vx5hd 2-10x42 cds-zl2
3. Leupold vx3i 3.5-10x40 cds-zl1
4. Leupold vx3i 3.5-10x40 duplex

Currently with the scope on it now it weighs 6 lb 1.8 Oz.

Which one of these Scopes would you choose. And please do not recommend Vortex I will not buy one of those optics again

I probably wouldn’t choose any of the above, because ANY Vortex is the obvious choice. Having said that, of your choices, mine would either be the Swarovski or the VX-3 with CDS.
Oh, and just so there’s no misunderstanding, I was joking about the anchor (cough, cough), I mean Vortex comment.

I also currently own the Leupold vx5 HD 2-10x42.

I was contemplating it but it's 17 Oz. The Swarovski is under 13 and the Leupold CDs ZL1 it's just over 13 Oz.

I just mounted a Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-15x42 on my MA 280AI...I sold my Swaro and don’t care for Leupold.

So far I’m really pleased.

I have no experience with those Scopes but they are quite heavy way too heavy for me to put on my MA

The reason I bailed on Swaro was the 1 inch tubes and reports of durability issues. I did like their glass though.

Leupold has mushy dials and reports of durability issues.

I considered NF 2.5-10x42 but wanted a little more magnification than 10.
Trijicon has good reputation for ruggedness.

20 ounces plus is what some folks say is needed in a scope for reliability / durability. My Credo HX is 23 oz.

Rifle is still plenty light.

I mounted a Leupold VX-2 UL, 3-9x33 with CDS on my .270 MA and really like the setup. Scope weighs 9.5 oz. and so far it's been proven to be very reliable. It's definitely not the best scope out there, but it is one of the lightest, and so far it has functioned as advertised.

My heaviest scope is my vx5 HD 3-15x44 🔥 dot at just over 19 Oz most of mine are under 13 I've never had one scope fail on me and almost 30 years of hunting except for vortex twice.I just think people spend so much money on an ultra light rifle and then they put a big heavy scope on

4.5-14x40mm Leupold with the B&C reticle.

That's the scope I have on my 280AI and I sure like it a lot. It has worked very well for me and I like the B&C reticle. It is fast to use and it truly works.

6x42mm Leupold

I really like the 6x42mm Leupold also and that is what I have on my Ruger 1B in 6mm Remington. I don't feel handicapped with the fixed power either.

Id put on the Leupold that you already have unless 4oz is worth the money for a new scope. In that case go for it!
