I have two post offices in town. One will take and ship a firearm. One won’t due to ignorance of the postmaster. Find a new post office.

Can you not educate the postmaster about their own policy? If they still refuse, inform them that they’re refusing to do their job and that you’re going over their head. I would definitely buy the insurance if you’re going to hit them with the truth, but it seems like they get to keep those jobs because people cower when they’re being asshats.
Full disclosure, I have had major issues with more than one post office in more than one town. It feels like a David vs Goliath situation because it is. In my experience, you may not feel like raising hell has any effect but those postal employees have been waaayy more willing to help after I followed up with their supervisor. They work for us, don’t let them get away with being a half ass employee.
I’ve also been told that I’m “too confrontational”. Whatever, I get stuff done.
