Now that I have a new T2 pack to break in I looking at how to best carry my rifle on the pack. Is the gun bearer the way to go or is there another option I should be looking at?

you don't need a kifaru gun bearer, just get a large kifaru pocket and put that on side of the bag(this year the bikini/4800), get another strap and secure it to you bag. no need for anything else, carried mine all over alaska like that

You would want to get the regular gun bearer, not the universal. The universal is for other brand packs.

I have carried my gun in a pocket like flyingbrass mentioned and also with the gun bearer. The nice thing about the gunbearer is that you can carry your gun on the side of your pack for the long hike in and then move it to the belt and carry it in front of you if you like to have faster access.

Side carry with a pocket.

Front carry with the gun bearer.

Side carry with the gun bearer.

If you're going to actually be hunting out of it, absolutely go with the gun bearer. If you're just transporting your rifle, do something else, doesn't matter. But if you actually might need that rifle fast, gun bearer it is. Putting the weight of the rifle to your hipbelt is ingenious! No more shrugging your shoulder all day to keep your rifle up and not being able to use your hands. Once you use one, you'll never be able to go back to a sling again.

+++ for the gun bearer. It took me all of 20 minutes to get used to it being a little in my sight and after that I wasn't even aware of the rifle until I needed it. When you need your rifle in a hurry it's right there. You really could jump shoot birds with it with a little practice I think.

Get a REGULAR Gun Bearer, not Universal. Use it on the side when packing in and on the hip belt when hunting. Been using this system for years and it works great. Like others have said, the rifle is VERY accessible in "hunt" mode.

Will definitely pick one up after the Nomad arrives... I can't think of a better way to carry it for comfort and quick access.

Ya I didn't like how low my gun rode. If we say down to take a break or something it was a pita...

I ended up just using the horizontal straps and it worked great!

I can't say that I've ever had a hard time sitting down. If we take a break during the hike in, I usually just sit on a log.

Really looking forward to using the center carry of the Nomad this year. Hopefully I'll get a chance to put a few miles on with it this weekend.

Sitting down can be a pain, especially if there are no trees. I always have to take mine out of the gun bearer. That said, it is without a doubt the best gizmo I've used for quick access to the gun.

This was on the infamous Dana Terraplane, it may ride different on Kifaru packs??
