Kifaru tepees vs seek outside tepees

I have a SO 6 man in the heavier camo fabric and now have a carbon pole for it. Really like the sod cloth as most sites to setup in are not level. Really does a good job of closing those gaps. Also like the cover over the zipper. I am running a kifaru oval stove in medium and almost always use the high wall. I have spent quite a bit of time in a kifaru 8 man and a little bit of time in a sawtooth. Would not hesitate to purchase either. Went with the heavier 6 man because of planning to use it primarily for base camp in late fall/winter conditions and wanted the heavier-duty fabric. With the new carbon fiber pole you can get down to nearly a sawtooth weight 6 man with the lighter fabric. If two people are splitting the load the extra weight is a non-issue for backpacking the heavier version. Quality is great for both product lines.

Great post!

Mad Mt. Mike,
I enjoying the picture of your BCS. Is this the original or the BCS-2? What stove are you running and what are some of the conditions you have encountered with this combo? I have the BCS-2 and a Large WiFi stove all Ti with a 7 1/2' pipe. I noticed yours is quite long is that needed or do you use this in different shelters and need the length for the other one? Thanks in advance.

Gentlemen, please consider that the tent size (6,8,12) is nearly irrelevant. The numbers that matter are the weights and the footprint size. Hunting in adverse conditions with two people and a 12 tepee is glorious. Max out on your shelter size depending on your mode of transport and available pitch locations. Rest and recover in the PM and hunt hard the next day. I own three tepee and if I can ill bring the biggest possible. Cheers!

Agree 100%. Well said Chris!

I had a six-person Kifaru, returned it for a 8-person K-tipi, then sold that and have contemplated buying a 12-person SO, in the heavier, camo fabric.

I would use this primarily as a "kitchen" and "hangout" shelter and use my Hille. "Saivo" as my "bedroom" as I do not care to sleep where I cook/eat in BC's mountains, due to the growing Grizzly population and increasing number of attacks on humans.

This, of course, would be a "base" camp and finding a sufficient, "tree-free" space in our densely forested, steep countryside is not always possible, but, where such a campsite exists, this is my ideal camp, even when hunting alone, as I often do.

That said, I will probably buy one of SO's little BT2 shelters and use that for cooking and my tiny original Integral Designs MKI-Lite for snoozing.

Being a "geezer", that is about all I can now backpack..... WTH, even limited backpack hunting is FAR better than cruising logging roads on one of those ATV contraptions that seem to be "breeding" as there are so many of them in every drainage open to them......... :(

Can't go wrong with either one. I have a SO nest that could almost be used as a stand alone tent. It's very well made. I also have a Kifaru Paratarp that I'm equally impressed with. It's gonna suck choosing between a BCS or Sawtooth when I decide to retire my SL-5.
