Kifaru tarp material

Without going into to much detail, it's basically a high end sil nylon. The actual name is "high tenacity/mil spec sil nylon".

And as time said, the weight of the material we use is pretty close to 30D.

He should have said "serious space age shit" because I have seen and own other types of silnylon and it clearly doesn't stack up to Kifarus. And I don't even own one of their tarps but have the material on my KU belt pouches.

Is it normal for the kifaru material and all silnylon to absorb water? My mega tarp seemed to weigh a lot more after couple days of rain.

I don't think that it absorbs water I think that it holds allot of water on its surface. You can get rid of allot of it just by shaking it off.Obviously that's easier with the smaller shelters or an extra person to help. When things are wet if you try shaking the shelter yourself you end up swapping surface water for mud if part of it is on the ground.
