Kifaru Tahr and Mountain Rambler

This also connects the top of the bag to the frame so the lid straps don't need to be routed through the common loop at the top of the frame meaning so the lid can be pulled down lower than the top of the frame and actually covers the drawstring opening on the top of the bag. ...more to come.
Yes running the lid on the rambler through those common loops with a small-ish load didn't work out well. The lid became more of a grab-it.

Pictures of your set up would be appreciated when you have time!

Bump for pics...I should be receiving my nomad and rambler this week so I'll update accordingly, including a picture of the tahr next to the rambler which was my original question in this thread :)

Received my rambler today and unfortunately the tabs for the nomad and rambler don't line up. I don't think it would make a difference though.

What I did do was remove the meat shelf and most of the scabbard from the rambler. This made the rambler 8 oz lighter and should put it at 1 lb 11oz without a lid. I found the meat shelf greatly contributed to making the rambler feel sloppy. Oddly enough, the way the stitching was set it was like Kifaru designed it to be easily removed :D

Still no pics of the rambler and tahr yet, but I'm happy to say that I realized the nomad + rambler didn't work out BEFORE cutting up the nomad.

Here's a picture of the tahr and rambler

Looks like the mountain rambler is discontinued and being redesigned. Hopefully they fix the flop.

Fixing the Rambler flop

The Rambler can be easily attached to the bottom of the frame the same as the Nomad by putting G hooks on the bottom compression straps. The straps still function normally for the lid this way. I have been able to eliminate the flop on mine by doing this.

Interesting mod. That actually did help a lot even on the 22" frame. I used split bar ladder locs instead of g-hooks cause that's what I had. Thanks!

And here are some pics of the top connect mod I did. just a simple strap sewn on both ends to hold the top of the bag tight to the frame sheet. to undo it, all that needs to be disconnected are the load lifter straps. I can get a rifle in it with it connected but both putting it in and pulling it out require taking the pack off, loosening other straps, etc. not a quick draw set up but it takes up a lot of the slop in the top of the pack.

Sorry it took so long to get these up. the concept of the Rambler is great, I think, but it does need some finer tuning to function better with the accessories and the frames.

I see some of the Rambler negative comments started in 2012. Have these issues been addressed and redesigned? I was just thinking of buying a Rambler bag but a little gun shy after reading this. Has the loose flop been addressed since then? Any other tweaks?

The Mountain Rambler was brand new in 2015.....at least for retail purchase. Only Kifaru knows when they began playing with the design.
