Kifaru Slick Bag ?'s

I have the older side zip one in a long / wide 0 degree. I'm 6'3 250 plus and it fits great. Under 4lbs for a synthetic that fits and is packable. And like all Kifaru products it's very well made. That being said I freeze in it below 40 degrees. Now I am a cold sleeper, but I have a Big Agnes 0 degree that is warmer, and Big Agnes has a reputation for not being as warm as their temp rates. I love Kifaru gear but am considering a down bag because I hate being cold. Supposedly the new center zip bags use a different insulation and are warmer. Just my experience

I had a zero (new 2015 model)
It was excellent, just too big (long/wide). Very warm.

I sold it and got a 20 degree slick regular width/length. Love it.

It's a tough bag and breaths well. As far as the warmth, it's taken me 3 seasons to finally realize it's only as warm as the pad you have under it will allow you to be. I need at least an R value of 5 or more to be comfortable at 25 or below in any of the 3 bags I have. The Xtherm has added a lot of warmth to all my bags ;)

I have a 0 and a 20 and love them both. I have no reason to want a down bag. I'm a cold sleeper so I'd say add 15 to the temp rating.

I have a Gen I 0 wide long. I've not gotten cold in it yet and routinely camp in the winter in northern Minnesota. Most bags I've had prior were 'too warm' so some of it is personal, the 0 I have is just right though I think regular would have been better than the wide long.

I use a 20* Long Wide. I absolutely swear but it. It is a little heavier than a down bag yes but you have the security of having a synthetic if it gets wet. I have climbed in it many nights soaking wet and have dried off by the time I have woken up. Try doing that with a down bag and you will loose loft.

I also run a wide long center zip 0 degree. Toasty at 15 degrees last year with base layer on. I am super clausterphobic and love the room. packable (just) but also good security if it gets wet and nasty out. Have not found a bag I would change to. though I just picked up a marmot plasma from a rokslider for a buddy. i will be interested in his review of it- the thing is superlight for a full bag.
