Hey guys,

I know this topic has been discussed quite a bit, but I need your advice! I'm planning to order a Reckoning pack pretty soon, but I'm absolutely unsure about the frame size I should order. I'm 6.1 and my torso length is about 20-21". I'm not planning to use this bag to pack out meat or heavy loads over 80 pounds. It's intended to be used for backcoubtry backpacking. When I contacted Frank from Kifaru he adviced me to go with the 26". The problem is, that the 26" stays really look massive on the Kifaru homepage.
The question is whether I will need this much lift?! Or do you think I'll get along with the 24"?
Does anybody of you have pictures where i can see the 26" or 24" on a person?!
I'm from germany, so I have only one chance to order the right pack.

Thanks for your help in advance!

I'm 6'3 and have the Reckoning on the 26 inch frame and it is a great fit.

I'm 5'4" and I'm running the 24" stays. I can't imagine the 26" stays being too tall for you.

My concern is that the stays ride too high on my shoulders when i use the pack in day hiking mode. Any input on that?

The stays just determine the total pack height, the load lifters can be moved up and down if you want a more secure fit to able to run etc. My pack is in daypack mode most of the time, unless you are going to be going through heavy brush constantly it won't be a problem.

Unless you like to wear your hat backward a lot I think the 26" is the way to go. I'm 5'9" and run a 26" frame without issue.

If you are going to haul anything at all you'll want 26". I'm 6'1 and have several Kifaru Packs and Frames. The 24" feels "short" to me and just doesn't have the lift I want. Here's a full T1 and a full Mountain Warrior both with 26" stays.

Get the 26" and be done with it. I think all of us are recommending that, I am not aware of anyone at 6'1" getting a 26" and wishing for a 24". I am also 6'1" and there is no way on earth I would choose to buy a 24"

That's a statement! Normally I don't pussy around that much. But a Kifaru pack is a huge investment, that should last me a long long time. So I just want to make the right decision!

I would make an honest determination of the loads and distance you will be hauling. If it's going to be 40#'s 90% of the time then I would guess the 24" would work fine. If you don't get too far from the road or truck and happen to haul 80#'s "once in a while" and it's a mile or so then I bet the 24" would be fine...not as comfortable as the 26" frame but you aren't hauling that far. If you are putting on miles and will be hauling 80#'s for any distance I'd say the 26" would be the one to get. I am 6'1" 190ish pounds and I love the 26" frame. I haven't had a load over 70#'s on my pack but still wouldn't go any shorter. I've never been bothered by the stays riding "high" when in daypack mode.

Yeah, I would go 26" as well. I'm 6' and while I don't have their pack yet, I went to their show room and tried them all on when I was passing through Denver. The 26" was much better, with 30lbs or 80lbs. You don't need super heavy loads to appreciate the added height and better placement of the load. Even a 40lbs pack will feel more effortless with the higher stays. You could always buy one and return it after some testing....or use it for a season and sell it for a small loss.

I just ordered a hunting frame and reckoning last week. I'm 6' and 190 lbs. When I called kifaru the guy basically said what has been said already. Unless I was going to be constantly hunting thick brush the 26" would be better. I got the 26. The way I see it is I'm willing to take whatever rare inconvenience an extra 2 inches might cause so that when I pack out over 100 lbs I'm not wishing for more load lift.

At this point if you don't get a 26" you will be an askhole lol. Someone who asks for advice and then ignores it hahahaha.
