This is just my .02 but wanted to share. I've guided whitetail hunters a lot and we've always pre-hung cushy stands so that's all I've really known, but I've emerged myself into the world of saddle hunting lately and have been somewhat perplexed on how to carry all of the stuff needed without 800 straps, plus camera gear and layers. I've settled on the Hellbender as the most versatile for whitetail hunting and wanted to share why as I know it's a good western option as well. I've used this for hauling blinds/chairs, lock on stands w/sicks and spot/stalk/glassing with the ability to carry my tripod, spotter and layers.

Iv'e used the load shelf on this pack a lot for blinds and regular lock on stands, so I already knew it was good for that. But wanting to stay as quiet as I could for hang and hunts, this is how I decided to pack. 4 sticks turned horizontal in the load shelf just resting on the bottom. Using timber ninja c1 sticks, they stick out about 3 inches extra on each side which is about the width of my elbows standing with the pack on, so not super wide as to snag stuff. Then my platform fits in the rear slot pocket on the back of the bag perfectly, protecting it from getting clanked on.

I attach 2 buckles at the top of the bag to the frame, then one strap on each side about half way down. These correspond to be able to buckle to each other across the bag if I wanted to strap my bow on the back. I'll attach photos when I get a chance, but wanted to share what has worked for me as I've seen tons of options.

@Jordan Budd how big is the hellbender? It appears kifaru doesnt include any specifications for any of their packs on their website—if they do its well-hidden.

Ive been very happily using a small pack with load shelf exactly as you described, its by far the best way Ive found to carry sticks especially. At $900 it better rub my feet when Im done using it, though!

I agree, it is tough to tell much about it from their website. Weight?

I used an Eberlestock Mainframe, just started with their Modframe, and both of those are very versatile. I really like the Modframe.

That said, I think I may go back to the Popup 28. It's a bit more compact and the load shelf works so well for stands/platform/meat. I would guess the Hellbender is much the same though perhaps a bit more robust.

It'll be 5.5 lbs I bet total. I’d need to weight it. I’m using a 22” ark frame. The Stryker xl is similar size and idea at 2 lbs and change.

I also think a good load shelf is a great addition to a whitetail pack. I use the Stryker XL with duplex lite frame, and it carries weight fantastic. Like you stated with the Hellbender, I use mine to carry my hang-on and sticks and use it to pack out a deer if necessary. The addition of a Sherman pocket allows for some better organization on the Stryker XL.

Google's AI Overview lists ~3 for ARK frame + ~3 for Hellbender pack

Eberlestock's Modframe is 4.5 + 1.55 for a Vapor 2500 so they are pretty close.

The MR Popup 28 is ~4.9 with noticeably less internal volume.

The 22” Kifaru ARK frame weighs 3.09 lbs. The total weight of the frame will be higher when a belt is attached, with options ranging from 3 lbs 0.8 oz (small belt) to 3 lbs 2 oz (large belt).

  • Frame only: 3.09 lbs

  • With belt:
    • Small belt: 3 lbs 0.8 oz

    • Medium belt: 3 lbs 1.4 oz

    • Large belt: 3 lbs 2 oz
The Kifaru Hellbender backpack weighs 3.05 pounds. It has a volume of 2,250 cubic inches and is designed to be used with an external frame, which is not included with the pack itself.

  • Weight: 3.05 lbs
  • Volume: 2,250 cubic inches (36.87 L)
  • Note: The pack is sold separately from its required external frame.

Yeah I would agree that the hellbender is a great whitetail bag, western 1-3 day hunt bag. My setup is shown here

My set is in a tree currently, when I take it down I'll take a photo of it. I have my sticks just like you have them here... is that an XL platform? I just ordered a predator xl and wondered if it'd fit in the back pocket anymore.
