Will the kifaru gun bearer work on other brands of packs (stone glacier)? Looking to try one and see if its better for me than having my rifle on my back. I am looking at getting a kifaru pack, but that likely will not be until next year.

They make one for other packs. I have been eyeing this up as well. No experience with it though.

I have the Kifaru universal gun bearer I believe. Don’t know how many they make. It has worked great on various packs, mystery ranch and kuiu.

I was under the impression that the gun bearer would only allow the barrel to sit out in front of your shoulder? I wanted it to sit close to the pack so went with the Stone Glacier quick release sling. Was able to attach it to the Mystery Ranch GT frame and now have it on the Kifaru Duplex Lite frame.

Yes, get the “universal” gun bearer. I believe the only difference is that the part that holds the butt of the gun straps around the waist belt (so it can fit any pack) vs the kifaru one that connects to the webbing loops on the belt.

Yeah you want the universal gun bearer, I have on my mystery ranch pack. Best piece of gear I own. As far as wanting to run it on the side of your pack instead of under your arm, it would work if you have something to put the Velcro strap around, but it works great under the arm I don't ever want to go back having the gun behind me

The barrel actually sits out in front of you just to the side of and in front of your face. Picture the butt of the gun below but beside your hip. The gun angles across to the front of you with it strapped to your shoulder harness about nipple height

I have both the Stone Glacier and the universal Kifaru gun bearer on my Sky 5900. I was having a hard time being very quick getting my rifle out of the SG one (or even doing it without taking my pack off) but I like how tight and out of the way it is if I'm just in transit somewhere. The gun bearer works great for hands free and quick!

The Kifaru specific version works just fine on the Kuiu Pro harness/suspension.

I used the Kifaru version on my Kifaru pack lask elk season and it worked great. I had never used an "out front" under the arm carrier like that and I felt it helped me when ducking under branches, etc. as I was able to move and control the rifle barrel better rather than getting hung up on stuff with it out of sight up behind me.

I stumbled on this tread, thanks for all the great info here. I have been thinking of buying one of these for awhile to help stay hands free or utilize trekking poles on those steeper hikes.

Been using these for years and have them on all of our packs. Really made me less concerned about saving a pound or 2 of rifle weight. And as mentioned makes using trekking poles a breeze.

i'm for sure getting one... I have been torn between the mystery ranch quick draw (seemingly genius design that can be used on most pack) and the kifaru, I have a kuiu gun bearer retro fit on my mystery ranch and it works fine. the kuiu design makes me scratch my head though, it barely fits the butt stock of most rifles... they didn't do much testing before releasing that I guess. mainly I just wanted to see how it was to carry a rifle that way, and I like it.... fast

I also like what someone mentioned about being easier to duck under stuff, it clearly wins there. i'm ordering one when they open back up (kifaru)

The only issue is getting used to having the barrel in your peripheral vision. It only too an hour or so for me to get where I didn’t see it anymore but I know some just can’t seem to get past it being in their peripheral vision. I could literally wing shoot flushing birds with a little practice it’s so fast.

I have the Kifaru Gun Bearer on my Seek Outside pack. It works fine on anything with a PALS matrix on the waist belt.

I also added the top portion of the Stone Glacier system, so I have the option of carrying the rifle either in front or behind my shoulder, yet still maintain a quick release from both positions. Also if I release the gun from the SG, I have the ability to reattach the gun to my pack, without dropping my pack.

Anyone have experience with the KGB busting brush? Where I primarily hunt it’s over grown as all hell. I strap my rifle to the back of my pack as low as I can but still get yanked back as it it gets caught up on low hanging branches.. any insight on this? Seems it would be cumbersome getting low / crawling???? Thanks fellas🤙🏻
