Kifaru gun bearer on Mystery Ranch guide light

For those of you running a gun bearer on the guide light, which works better, the universal version or the Kifaru pack specific version? I have seen some guys rig the Kifaru specific version to work a Mystery Ranch. I like the design of how the Kifaru specific version attaches to the waist belt rather than the loop used on the universal version. Anybody have experience with both versions? Thanks

I have no issues with the universal on my guide light waist belt. Not sure what mods one would have to do to get the pack specific one to work on the guide light.

You can get the universal with 2 waist belt straps, the short strap is more then enough strap to get it done. I didn't like there shoulder strap set up so I took mine apart and just use the barrel holder part which I have run under the webbing on the shoulder strap.

Do you loop the around just the webbing on the waist belt or the entire waist belt pad? I emailed Kifaru and they suggested I good with longer loop.

I just got a Pintler for an October elk hunt myself and I’m currently trying to figure out which I wanna pick up, the MR sling or the Gun Bearer. I’m trying to research as best I can. From what I’ve found, the gun bearer seems the more used choice but it also has its getting used to as well with the rifle being under your arm. I would rather the MR sling work and be stout but we shall see...

I loop it around the entire waist belt and the smaller loop is just right. The tag end of the loop ends just were it needs to end.

Personally, I tried out the universal on my Metcalf and hated it. I couldn't get past the gun being under your arm and it was not nearly as secure as I thought it would be. I just felt I would get annoyed while using it and returned it.

The Kifaru specific should work on any waist belt that has molle/ pals webbing.

I don’t like the shoulder strap portion of the Kifaru specific version, it’s too floppy, I run the Kifaru specific waist belt and the universal shoulder strap on my Kifaru pack.

Took me a minute to get use to the rifle under my arm but after a little adjusting and messing as round with the rifle position it works great. The rig is very secure as long as the shoulder strap is locked down all the way.
I did pick up a 2 pack of straps with the same buckle as the factory shoulder strap off Amazon for a few bucks So I have an extra in my pack.

I like to strap that bottom piece as far back into the corner of the belt as possible. Ill probably wrap mine in that area in the corner of the belt where that space is between the belt and that piece that goes to the frame. Metcalf comes today and then im jumping ship!

man i dunno, ive had that thing for so long I cant remember. If i had to guess its the short. Ive seen some pictures of some that looked really long compared to this one.

That's ok man. I thought it look like the short too. I'm just going to order the short and see if it works. If not I can always buy the long later.
