Kifaru duplex lite stress test

So I got my kifaru reckoning and duplex lite last week. I was seeing how strong the frame is and as I flexed it with my arms I heard a slight crack. How much flex are these supposed to have? And I’m slightly disappointed seeing as how I spent 286 bucks on this frame and it’s cracking or something.

Well, I'm sure you can break just about anything if you tweak it in certain ways. I don't have the new duplex but I have a regular duplex with aluminum stays and I can bend them if I tried. Also have the UL duplex with arrow shaft stays and obviously I could break those if I tried as well.

I guess it might help if you described more how you were flexing it. Photos or even a video would be even more helpful. If it is a design issue, the more info you can provide, the easier it will be to possibly replicate the issue and resolve it.

I would say this, from my experience just call Kifaru and they will help you out and answer any questions you have. They have the best costumer service in the business so you are in good hands.

You could break an anvil, Seek Outside, EXO, Kifaru, or KUIU frame if you try hard enough. I'm assuming he wasn't doing that. Surely no one is doing that and, then complaining about it. Only thing I'll say is the carbon arrow shaft at the top holding the two wings together can be broken with misuse. But, carrying weight on the pack frame shouldn't break it. However, IF you are jerking on it, trying to flex it to break, using it as a pack handle to jerk up 130 pound loads etc.... you are probably going to be rewarded with a broken cross stay.

One last thing. I want to know how you got it for $286?

Well I sat down on the frame and tried pulling up a little. It did fine. No cracking or popping. Then I sat it up on end like it sits on your back and sat on it. I did a little flexing and small little bounces and I heard a nice crack/pop. Then I got scared so I stopped. Then I tried it with my arms a little bit and it surely cracked. But I chatted with Aron directly and it will be resolved. I think out of my inexperience with these frame packs I tested it the wrong way and almost anything would’ve bent or broke. But maybe I’m wrong.

@WV Mountianeer sorry I’m all messed up right now. I just had a kid and I’m super fatigued. I spent $350.00 on that frame.

yeah Aron was super awesome about it. He said they will send me a new stay. I know this frame will withstands load of elk meat. He did have my pull the 1/8” stay out of the frame and try to break it further up above the first break. So I stepped on the good side of the first break and pulled up on the other side and after a few good tugs upward of course it cracked. Wether this was done with aluminum or titanium in the same weight class of material it surely would have bent. Yeah I work out

Haha it’s been resolved everybody! No smartass comments. If you view this thread pretend it’s been deleted. The main conclusion is if you really attempt to break the frame in an absolute unrealistic manner l, yes you can break it.

If you think you can break it using it the way it was built to be used well good luck with your endeavors

That’s why I said I’m inexperienced. I did not know it was going to break because I’ve heard serious torture stories on these packs.
So yeah it took breaking it to figure it out. I guess I learn the best the hard way.

One time I ran a red light and slammed into another car to see if my car's crash test rating was accurate. Son of a bitch didn't even run after that.

I’m glad it worked out for you man. All I can say is call Kifaru and thank them extra. Because there is zero way I’d replace it after hearing what you done to it. Absolutely zero chance in it. So, they no doubt deserve great recognition for doing so. And you learned a valuable lesson. All is good. It, I want to bring up one more thing. The best way to learn is not the way you did this. Because most would leave you high and dry on it. Like I said, I’m glad it worked out well for you. Good luck and God Bless

Oh my goodness I could never work with the public. I would be out of business the very first day.

I think the proper remedy is to buy another frame from them and say “thanks for helping me fix the first one.”
