I've been the proud owner of my new BT1 for a week now and can't say enough good things about it.

My only concern, however, is the size of the waist belt. I have a 34 inch waist, and I believe I got a medium belt. When I adjust the belt as per directions (centred over hip bones), and wearing only one layer on top, I can cinch the belt to it's absolute max and there is no more room to tighten.

Of course if I have on a second layer it's not an issue, but I'm nervous that the belt may be slightly too large.

I know other guys have mentioned that 33-34" waist is right on the edge of small and medium (which I admit puzzles me, as it is a very common waist size for an athletic hunter).

My question is how much smaller is the small belt? Also, is it better to have the padded part of the belt wrap all the way around to the front (basically, my scenario, so the belt is borderline too big), or go with a belt that gives more room to adjust, with the padding only wrapping around 2/3 of your waist? I'm somewhat concerned that a small belt wouldn't give enough adjustment in cold weather with multiple layers.

Appreciate any feedback.

Ii have the small belt and my waist is 30-32. There seems like there would be plenty of room for a 34 or larger. Aron would know for sure.

I haven't used a small belt but the medium works perfect for my 36in waist.

I would give Aron a call and he will be able to help you out.

I'm a 33-34ish and the medium was to big on me also. Small worked fine for me even with several layers.

That definitely helps, thanks! How much smaller is the small? Let's say we use the distance between the outside edge of the buckle and the quick pull plastic piece on the belt that re-routes the webbing. Right now I have it pulled right tight, so there is no gap.

How much space would there be on the small?

I feel the same way...if border line I would always size down IME. In fact at times with a really heavy load I wish I had a XS for my 30" waist ;)

If you are under a 36" waist, you need a small belt. Having the padding touching is not going to work. There is nothing wrong with having several inches between the padding. Having some space enables you to fully tighten your belt reguardless your clothing. With all 3 belt sizes there is that specific waist size that could almost go either way but in the end one is always the correct choice for proper fit.

Call Kifaru on Monday and we'll swap it out. If you can call in the morning, do that and I'll talk with you about the pack/fit as well.
