I found out yesterday that I drew a bull elk - second firearm season tag in Kentucky. I've never hunted elk before but began applying this year to multiple states expecting to hunt an OTC tag in Colorado. Now that I've drawn this once in a lifetime hunt I don't want to squander it. I'm looking for info on where to get started in my research. It seems that very little is available compared to western states. Just want to make sure I make the most of my opportunity.

Did you contact thier fish and game bio? I've heard land ownership can cause access issues. Congratulations that's amazing you drew your first year

I believe that you have to pick a zone and then the State will send you outfitter, public land, and landowner info. I use to put in but got tired of "donating". Lol. Congrats on the tag.

I'm a KY resident and after 10 years I finally drew a cow archery tag this year. You have the option to stay at-large, or put in for a Limited Entry Area by July 1st. At large basically means you can hunt on public or private land outside of the LEA's as long as it is in the elk zone. If you put in and get drawn for a LEA you can only hunt that area. There are pros and cons with both and getting a guide can have a big impact on where you may decide to hunt. Feel free to shoot me a PM and I can get you up to speed with what I have learned so far. Congrats on the tag!
