I live in Kenai and I was hoping to get a moose this fall but I was too busy in September to be able to really hunt moose much. I still would like to get some meat in the freezer before winter, though. Do you guys think it's worth it to try and harvest a black bear throughout October and do you think the meat will still be enjoyable?

Also, have any of you tried to spot and stalk from a boat on Kenai Lake?

Thanks!

There are still plenty of bears out running around at that time. I would just pick some locations far away from any salmon sources. I know people who have cruised the lake success seems to be minimal. There are bears up high just have to figure out how to get to them.

Thanks for the input! I think I still might try to cruise the lake after work since it's an easy way to hunt but if I have time, I'm going to try and hunt up high near Moose Pass.

Kenai lake will likely have a few other hunters, but id be surprised if there were too many, especially on weekdays. We camped on Kenai lake for a bunch of years in the late Sept-Oct timeframe and almost never saw hunters out on the water. Of course your experience may vary, but id say its worth trying if that's all you can do. I never hunted on the lake, focused a lot more of my time on the Resurrections Trail/Pass area. But I cant imagine that lake not being worth a few boating excursions.
