Thinking about putting a brake on my .338 wm. I’m tinkering with it to set it up shooting the 230 eld-x.
It has a factory sporter barrel that’s definitely on the thin side. I’m trying to keep it as a lighter weight gun, rather than rebarrel to a heavier barrel.
I’m sending the barreled action to a smith that has a good reputation working on Winchester’s for a trigger job. Tried a new spring but it’s still breaking around 4.5 lbs, and I want it at 2.
I mentioned maybe braking it and he carries KDF brakes. He said he’ll look at the barrel profile and see if they’ll work.
That being said, is the KDF any good or is it an old school design that’s not as good as newer designs? I’m definitely looking for a lightweight brake option and prefer a slimmer profile. Maybe even one that I can take off for hunting. I’ve never been a big fan of how loud brakes are, but I do appreciate making this gun more enjoyable to shoot.
Anyone have any thoughts on KDF or options for a sporter barrel? Thanks.
