Kansas upland conditions. North Central area

Thought I'd ping the greater public here to see if anyone located in KS could give me a update.
Thinking about jumping on a last minute bird hunt next weekend.

I'm torn as I already have a Nebraska license, but have an area that was reccomended in KS and new country always piques my Interest.

What say you late season bird guys?

I'm in south central Nebraska. It's dry here, cover is thinner and less birds than normal. South of highway 4 is better, but still not as good as normal. I have friends that regularly hunt south of here across the border into Kansas. They thought conditions there weren't much different than here. Less quail than they've seen in the past. They thought things improved the closer to I70 you get.

I hunted North-Central KS opening weekend. We had a large group of guns and dogs, and an awful lot of private lane available to us. In the end, the hunting was extremely tough. Quail numbers were decent but pheasant populations were very very low. I can’t speak for any other areas of the state, but the drought conditions in Kansas have hurt populations all over.

Nothing for snow south of highway 4 in Nebraska, and only patches south of I80 (central Nebraska). I wouldn't expect any south of there across the border either.

I was just in NC/NW Kansas two weeks ago. Normally I hunt Kansas quite a bit on public, and I’ve taken quite a few roosters the last couple seasons. This year I don’t think it’s even worth a Hunting in north central or northwest Kansas. Especially if you’re planning to hunt public and not private. A good majority of the WIHA’s are cut and bailed. It’s super dry as well! pheasant numbers seem to be greatly reduced. Personally, I wouldn’t bother buying a license for a late season hunt. Especially if you already have a Nebraska license. You’ll probably find as many birds in Nebraska as in north central/ northwest³ Kansas on public currently.
Unless weather pattern shift and they start getting a lot of rain, I don’t see myself hunting pheasants in Kansas the next couple seasons.

Just came from hunt in the Norton area and as everyone is saying the pheasant numbers are very very low. We saw three pheason over three days of hunting. If it was not for the occasional covy of quail the trip would have been a bust. We cancelled a plans to hunt late season South Dakota because of the snow conditions so really did not do much research before we went. Lota walking for few encounters.
