Long read but fun:
Fun but True: The spot I'm in this year.
Here's a funny / great spot to be in as a Midwest bowhunter. Here's the equation I'll set you up and now you're the bowhunter - You are in Kansas: You have 14 days in November to hunt and it's Nov 1st you have multiple private properties and multiple big bucks hitting your cell cams plus these two above are one year older than what you see above and they both are huge - they are the main target bucks - you got one Kansas tag, and you won't get another one but every other year. You've killed a 212" non typical 4 years ago and you have put over 20 bucks on the ground with a bow ranging from 150" to 180" so you are not real crazy on that you have to kill a 170".
Just for fun let's say we know the buck I named The 180 turned into a 200" (Left buck above) and The Muley Buck (Right buck above) turned into a 175" this November just to put a score on each one. Because we should get pics in Sept / Oct and hopefully that's what they turn into.
So, both of these bucks should be giants, but I really want to bow kill the 180 as he should jump close to 200" and I believe he will be a 5 yr. old this year so he is old enough according to my management plan
You hunted the farm that The 180 buck lives on Day 1, 2, and 3 he's showing up on pics but you haven't seen him in the daylight yet but he is showing up on the camera's pretty good at night so you go over to the property where the Muley Buck lives on Day 4 to give the other property a break and the Muley Buck shows up and is walking down the tree line / funnel right to you and is going to give you a 13-15 yard broadside shot. The wind is blowing to where if you let him go, he won't smell you even after he walks by and he'll have no clue you where there.
Do you let the Muley Buck walk because you have 10 more days to hunt and you want to kill the 180 or do you shoot the Muley Buck and your done for the season which is not bad cause he is a giant ?? Do you let him walk or do you shoot.
I know people are going to say OMG what a spoiled brat - try to hunt Michigan, Pennsylvania etc. etc. this is just laid out there as a great problem to have and it's not a problem at all I'll shoot the first one that shows up probably but it's fun to hear other people's opinion on what they would do if you had this land and a tag for this year. Would you hold out for one or the other or shoot the first one that gave you a good close shot. And I grew up in Michigan hunting and Pennsylvania too that's why I moved to Iowa.
