Just ordered a MR Terraframe 50

I just ordered a MR Terraframe 50 from Sierra trading post. Full pack and bag for $229. If it doesn’t fit I have a store I can bring it to and get my money back

What’s everyone’s experience with the original Guidelight frame? I have heard the MT is better but is it more than twice the money better? I have a MR Glacier and it has handled 75lbs plus in training but am looking to be able to pack my tree stands as well as do a yearly hunt for elk

So I loaded up my new Terraframe and am really impressed on my first shakedown hike. I did a 2.5 mile hike with my basic kit and 2 days of food. With this being 50 liters and the Glacier I had been using was 70 liters I had to strap my shelter on the outside.

I think if I get some different buckles I could add the lid from my glacier and stretch it out to 4 maybe 5 days of food with some minor rearranging and without having to put a camp bag between the frame and pack bag.

It has the Guidelight frame and it carry’s at least at 30 pounds much better than the Glacier. I am going to put in 60 pounds of sand and see how that carries next.

I bought this same pack from Sierra. I talked to MR before purchasing because I was looking at buying the MR Pintler setup. I showed the MR rep this deal and he said there is no reason why you should buy the Pintler. The Terraframe 50 is actually the same bag, but even a touch bigger. He stated the frame should be able to carry up to 150lbs just like their other bag/frame setups. For the price, Sierra had these at, this is really a hidden gem.

My initial thoughts on the pack are that is looks great. Looking to break it in this fall.
 
Used the guide light for years. I have an MT now. I like the belt better - padding and molle. Apart from that I don’t think I could tell you a difference in performance.

that terra frame is an evolution of the MR Terraplane pack That has been regarded as top of the heap for long haul backpackers for years. Adding the meat shelf makes it a very good hunting option. It will serve you well.

The green is the 2020 with the Guidelight MT frame. Since it is made overseas I would bet they weren't able to get there orders filled in a timely manner due to the Covid.

When I was first researching for our first elk hunt two years ago I spoke to MR and they suggested the Terraframe 80 but also said the Glacier and Terraplane were both rated to carry 100 pounds. Since I hadn't backpacked since college and all I had to compare was a 30+ year old Eastern Mountain Sports pack I went with the Glacier to save $200 for other equipment since I had no idea if this would be a one and done or a new passion. I still went with a better pack than most of what we saw other hunters in Colorado last year with.

Between what I spent on my Glacier and the Terraframe 50 this year was about what it would have cost me for the 80 at the time so really not a big deal. I learned though with my 40" waist that even though MR recommends the XXL belt the XL stays put better for me. Also the Glacier had almost no lift for my 21" Torso and for my son who is 6'5" with a 23 inch torso the lifters were below his shoulders. Based upon the lift the GL frame has on me I will have him use it next year and I will use his Glacier when we go back to Colorado.

The 50 should be perfect for me because I can haul treestands more comfortably and the bag won't be gigantic like the 80. I was very impressed with how comfortable the belt was compared to the Glacier and I feel the pull forward cinch was a big part of it compared to the older design of pulling back. It just cinches in place much better and there was no slipping like I would experience with the glacier sometimes. I have read several time what you have said about the MT belt and that has to be amazing then because so far this belt has blown me away. I was hesitant to buy this because of my long torso and I kept hearing how much more comfortable the other belt was but I figured I had nothing to lose especially since I have a Sierra Trading post less than 30 minutes from me to return it.

I had a TF50 for about a year and recently sold it. I really enjoyed the pack, put a lot of miles on with it on my back. I have two other MR packs with the NICE frame and so when a guy was looking for a pack to go on his first western hunt, I sold it to him. In hindsight, I probably should’ve kept it.
