so i got a new chronograph with some Christmas money this year but had a a little issue of how i was going to use it. my bench sits on a hill so there was no way to set up the chrony on a tripod or bench 10 feet out. ive been contemplating how i was going to fix this for a few days and yesterday at work it dawned on me

couple pieces of uni strut, some lags and the right nut and bolts. puts the chrony 10' exactly from the end of my barrel and its adjustable left to right. im pretty proud of my self on this one. what do you guys think? have to wait to shoot through it since were headed out the door here in a minute but i think its going to work pretty good

I built the same bench (changed the dimensions some to avoid having to rip the top planks), and I did something nearly identical.

I bored two holes in the front facial board and put two iron gas pipes through the holes, built a simple rail system underneath, and made a wide platform that slides in and out, and can be used from either side (my BFF is wrong-handed.)

The only reason I made it able to hug the bench is because we move bench periodically for shooting at different spots.

Just got the chronograph. I think I'm going to get the remote and look in to the software. I literally just opened the box to figure out how I was going to mount it. Haven't played with it at all yet

Very nice. You will really like the Pro Chrono as well!! I have had one for years and love it. It really helps on load work-up for your rifles too! It provides some critical information as you try different loads.

Very nice setup, looks like you have a great place to shoot. I have to use the pubic range and being able to set the chrono up there has it's own challenges as well. I recently upgrades to a Magnetospeed chrono, it attaches to the rifle its self, so I no longer have to walk out in front of the firing line, or worry about light conditions, or blowing the sunshades off. It records and store all the data so I can reference it for later use.

how is that thing not affected by muzzle blast?

Not sure of the science behind what it made of, but I have shot a couple 100 rounds over it and it still looks like new. Only draw back is you have to be sure to check that it stays tight to the barrel, because muzzle blast will cause it to loosen up. Not that bad on standard barrels, but it tends to loosen up on those skinny Kimber barrels. I have had it shift poi just a bit, so once I get my load dialed in I remove it and zero the scope.

It has a microSD card, so I can transfer the data to my laptop. I've been very happy with it, they get good reviews and have been selling out. Luke bought one this year as well, I have not ask him how he likes his yet.

At one of the ranges I use the slope caused me similar issues that you were having. I could barely get the tripod high enough, but there was always a giant mud hole there as well.

first run with the new chrony, bergers and magpro powder. worked a few bugs out of my set up before shooting these and it worked out really well. been a while since i worked up a load for my 300. i really wasnt happy with how it was shooting last year and im already liking these bergers better than the accubonds.

185 hunter classics/fed gm215m bench rest primers and so far the tightest group was 83.3 grs of magpro. thats a three shot group in the pic with only two holes. so im liking that. going to push it up a few grains and see what i get at a little faster speeds.

wrote the group size on the bottom there. kinda tough to see. tightest group was 3 @.48 at 100 yrds. followed pretty close by the 83.7 gr load at .49. but the two hole three shot group sure makes me smile
