June Estes Park, what to see, where to go

Agree, for the life of me, I can't see why anyone schedules a trip to "Estes Park" # Boring for sure.

One of the greatest bowyers and mule deer hunter to ever live, lives there. Go see South shop and the bows he builds. It’s awesome.

Well trip has been set. Hotels have been booked. We are staying in CO Springs, Estes Park, Wheatland, WY, and Custer, SO.
Only staying in Estes Park as it was the only hotel could get with points and with a dog. We do not plan on going to RMNP, as we have the dog and cant hike the trails in there with her, so will be looking for other areas outside of there.

From CoSprings > Buena Vista > Leadville > Silverthorne > Kremmling > Walden > Laramie
Then about 15 mi north of Laramie on Hwy30 take Hwy34 (Sybille Canyon) east to I25.
That will dump you out just south of Wheatland.

Stay anywhere along that route that interests you

This is probably 1000x better route than driving up I-25, or even taking the highways that run the first hogback I will say as much as boulder is full of people who have ruined my state… it is one of the most beautiful spots on the front range, hygiene, and gunbarrel, Lyons are pretty, but to see true Co beauty take Cnelk’s route.

Saw your post, maybe take the back way to Estes, so when you get to west side of the Denver metro area take the peak to peak highway from Blackhawk to Allenspark down into Estes from the south, it’s a pretty drive you could stop by brainard lake on the way, or hit of Rollinsville to hike

Lots of good advice here. Been going to Estes every few years for almost 40 yrs. It's gotten crowded but even my wife/kids like mixing it in every so often. Hard to beat RMNP for trail systems, views, and access/roads. Estes is still a fun town to walk, get a dinner and ice cream. The biggest hurdle now is the timed entry and if you didn't get them when they pop up (I think 30 days out) it could be tough now.

But - also many other great options, often cheaper, around CO. For beginners RMNP is a great start to have well marked trails with pretty destinations at the end. Once you are experienced, many great unknown trails throughout CO that we've discovered and sometimes we don't pass anyone on them and have an alpine lake all to ourselves.

Can't beat going out West to the mountains!

I'd take Highway 34 to Laramie stay here, better choices for lodging. The drive through the canyon is also neat and you may see bighorn sheep along with elk and deer.

Morrison has a cool little downtown right next to red rocks or golden if you want to grab food still easy to take the peak to peak or drive up through boulder and Lyons from red rocks which is a pretty drive
