Jumping the string

Im more used to whitetails. When archery hunting i always aim on the lower side to account for them jumping the string a little. What's the consensus on how mule deer compare to whitetails when it comes to jumping the string?

They can and will move at the sound of the arrow/bow. So will elk, sometimes, even though people will tell you they don't.

I haven't hunted whitetails so can't compare to that. But the truth is, you can't guarantee that an animal will or will not move, so if you're going to shoot at a distance where it could happen, you just have to guess whether they will or not, or try to aim "somewhere in the middle" of where they are now and where they could be when the arrow gets there.

I shot a muley 2 years ago that jumped the string at 62 yards. He turned into the arrow instead of away. Last years buck didn’t move a muscle at 45 yards.

in my limited experience of 3 tagged archery bucks, no string jump but none of them were on edge, only one knew I was there but he hadn't sensed danger.
