Guided on Sunday up at the UC for the Jr. hunts. Was able to get these two Jakes around 11. I had a brother and sister along with mom and dad. It was their first turkey hunt. We were rolling 5 deep. We had to work to get these birds. Was dead first thing in the morning. Around 10 we hear a bird gobbling. There were two Jakes and one of the Jakes was a gobbling fool. They were on the closed side that you can't hunt and they came up to the fence on that side. They stayed on that side and than cars started going by, so I finally said screw it and we left. About an hour later, another guide told us about a Tom and his hens stuck behind a fence as he was driving out. So, we tried to get on them. I think almost all the groups took a run at this bird. So by the time we got to him, he had already flew across to the closed area. But, we had gone far enough that I was able to hear that Jake still gobbling. Only now, they had crossed the road to the side we could hunt. I glassed them about 300 yards in and we were on it. We came in behind and above them and once we closed the distance, they came quick. I had us in some trees and bushes and we just sat down and it only took a few seconds for a red head to pop up. I asked my girl hunter-Kearstin if she saw the red head. She said "yes" and I said shoot it. It goes down and the other Jake who was to the left, pops his head up and the boy-Adam rolls it. It jumps up and another shot rolls it and we are happy and screaming. But, that bird jumps up and runs down the fence line. 2 shots later and some tracking, the boy Adam was able to finish him off. It was awesome to see the whole family happy and excited about the hunt and getting birds.
