Wondering if anyone has much experience with the Jim Green Barefoot African Ranger composite toes? I work in a machine shop and I need something that can hold up to metal chips. I work in the engineering office, so I'm not in the shop all day, but I do go out there quite a bit. I've worn Red Wings for over 25 years and they have pretty tough soles. But I had to get a different style last time than I normally get and they killed my feet. It felt like they had a huge heel on them. I'm interested in trying something without any drop.

I cant speak to the composite toes, but my barefoot rangers and troopers are great. I do prefer the troopers with a taller upper. Lower back pain that existed for years has dissipated quite a bit.

The anvil sole is quite soft and grippy good for walking on a metal roof, maybe not so much on concrete or pavement. Easy enough to resole diy or via cobbler.

I prefer the bronco leather, its much stiffer like a western boot, but is great once broken in. The Houston and fudge leathers have little break in and feel like slipper boots but dont feel as tough. They still hold up well.

I bought a pair of the barefoot composite toe rangers to try as I was in a similar situation. I ended up returning them because the toe box was too tight from my first impression. I have a pair of the regular barefoot rangers and daily wear those with no complaints.
