Ive had an epiphany!!! and possibly may need a dictionary....

So i dont know if i spelt epiphany right or not but as some of you may have saw im very very unhappy with my current boot. They kick butt for everything but any type of liquid in the area so they didnt do so hot for hunting. I still need to contact merrell about the waterproof claim but in the mean time ive been thinking.... I was looking towards some lowas but dont have anywhere near me to buy hunting gear really. A new sportsmans warehouse has opened about 45 minutes away which is closer than the cabelas that sat at about 2 1/2 hours, dont get me wrong i love living in the sticks, but neither of those sell Lowas. I didnt dare order offline and end up with a boot that didnt fit right either......


Here is where the light kicks in....


I have a 10% off card for cabelas, ive got a cabelas card with $100+ in points and i can make it in two hours (with the duramax, not the jeep).....

I could drive there and try on boots till i find a pair i like, break them in on my next 5 days off chasing elk here then they should be good to go for idaho. I def need something that will hold out water better than my merrels for up there. problem is i leave only 5 short days after gettting back from hutning utah elk..... so the question is what shoes does cabelas sell that might be worth getting.....


Cabelas has recently dropped the instinct backcountry boot. Pricey, in need of testing, and probably easy to get.... Debating on just getting a set and putting it to the test plus they give an extra 10% back in points for buying them. Thoughts on all of this? Any good boots you have bought at this superstore that you would recommend??? also im not getting danners, last pair was good until you hit a combo of wet and rocks, then it was ankle breaking slick!!!

and before anyone jumps me too hard..... Im not a huge fan of the superstores! If i could find a boot that works and i can try on before buying and get 10% off plus $100 off and still get points on my card well thats not too bad of a deal for the short term plan!


I also plan to keep my merrels for when i go jeeping, especially if they will replace these ones.... Idk how they are on customer service but im going to test it out!

to me it sounds like you really have no good options. working out what boots your going to hunt in 4 or 5 days before your season!! i could never do that. i get my boots and get them broke in/ figured out in February/ march. not September 1st. id get some that have no break in. danner prong horns fit every body, have no break in and last maybe one season and pretty well suck once they blow out. but that would be better than limping around on blisters two days into elk season on boots you know nothing about.

Salomon Quests are your answer for this season. Very comfy and will be good enough for this fall.

After this hunting season you can star trying out the high end boots

What size boot do you where? I have a pair of size 11.5 Lowa Cevedale (last year's model) that don't have 10 miles on them that I'd let go of for $160 shipped. I love the boots, but need a 12.

Ive got little feet sorry, and my old pair were pretty trashed so when a neighbor hood dog trashed them this spring during the turkey hunt i wasnt too upset, grabbed a new pair and they did ok it seemed but leaked a little water. Added tons of waterproofing stuff and they just have become sponges over the last 2 trips. Didnt really have much to plan for. Are the quests waterproof? Thats really my biggest thing... I wear boots every day all day and have to run up and down flights of stairs all day at work so breaking them in could be done faster than some might think but if they arent waterproof they wont be any better than what i have! Mine are still super comfy, just super wet too....

It's hard to order boots online, I've got pronghorns that suck, mendls that I'd go jeeping in, but my Crispi idaho's are the best boots I've ever used, pretty short break-in time also.
bought a pair of lowa's and like them very much, I've been doing my AM hikes breaking them in, wore the Crispi's yesterday and just love em

Pretty waterproof, but not a rubber boot

The best boots Cabelas has that are comparable to the Lowas are the Meindels. Go with either the Perfekt Hunters or Alaskan Hunters. My Perfekt hunters stayed waterproof for 3-4 years.

Good choice. Unless you are buying the exact same boot from the same production run, you are at risk that they won't fit the same. Some people have very tolerant feet, but others don't. Buy a pair that don't require a break-in period or you may wish you did. Sorry that LB scolded you, but he is correct. I got jammed up a little last year trying to find a boot that would work, but ultimately I did and was extremely happy. I also had about 2 or 3 weeks to work with them.

if the boots fit half assed just manage your time in them.....sometimes you are going to get a blister so what....It is not really always a big deal. Just try to keep it to a dull roar....feet dry change socks take boots off often give your feet a break regular. Some guys have poorer feet then others ....not everyone has trouble breaking in a light boot. Wet feet maybe suck but you can still hunt....
