Found several piles of scat on a ridge yesterday, about 8800 ft and pretty far from any roads or trails so I doubt it's from a dog. And too big for coyote?
SE Idaho if it helps.

My guess if wolf but wanted to confirm. There were about 3-4 other piles in this general area.

Hard to tell from the pics but looks segmented with lots of hair. My service isn’t that great and for some reason the pics aren’t that clear. First guess is a big cat.

Nah... that's too small for wolf scat. Ever seen the size of a labrador's pile? Wolf is gonna be bigger than that. I'd venture a guess it's coyote.

That was my first thought too and the only tracks I saw were coyote tracks. Not that close to the scat, but in this area.
But it also looked huge for a poor little coyote :)

Hmm thanks. Yeah, I have no idea, just surprised to see so much in this one general area.

Wolf scat that I have seen had bone chips in it. It looked like scat from a large coyote in shape and form and with hair, but coyote scat will only have broken bird bones or other very small bones, not chips off large bones. Hope that helps.

could be a wolf pup or younger one, but a full size wolf has much larger pile and diameter in my area.

Thanks guys! I thought too that the piles were too small for a wolf, just from picking up after my lab :)
But there's supposed to be wolf around the area so wouldn't hurt to get it somewhat confirmed.

Here's a wolf "turd" next to a size 13 boot. All hair. This drainage we couldn't take a couple of steps without hitting another pile of scat. We've got 21 wolf sets out that way. Just waiting on them to cycle back through.

Yeah that's what I expected wolf scat to look like, thanks for a great pic!
