Is this a good deal on this scope? Vortex Razor HD LHT 2-10x40mm

Is it worth it? Would you buy it?

I had a 3-15 LHT, but had sold it before getting this one, so no chance of a side by side comparison.

And besides the initial sighting in & checking zeros, I haven't shot it since, unfortunately.
Thanks, that makes sense.

Any chance you could provide an update when you use it again?

Im trying to decide between this and the 3-15. If the optical quality and light transmission are substantially similar, I think I would choose this based on the weight and reticle.

I mounted mine on a coyote calling gun, so I liked the 2X on the low end, & 10X is plenty for any distance needed. Problem is, I have been doing all my coyote hunting at night with a thermal, so it might be a while before I put it through the paces.

Problem with vortex scopes is every experience I’ve had or read with vortex is you will use their warranty. Which is one thing with Binos or a spotter. But do you want to find out you need to use their warranty on your rifle scope because you missed or worse yet crippled a deer?

The LHT line especially loses zero if you breathe on it wrong.

That really hasn't been my experience with the 3 LHT 3-15x42 scopes that I have. They have been decent. I completely get the sentiment about them, though! I also got mine back when Liberty Optics was selling them dirt cheap, and definitely wouldn't pay full price for one. And I do use SWFA and Maven on my serious hunting rifles, just because this place made me paranoid. I guess that I have a soft spot for Vortex, they were heavily involved in 3 gun when I used to shoot that, and were just a super nice group of guys.

If this had the HSR-4 or HSR-5 I would be very interested. I have two of the 3-15s that I really like. I also have a LH gen 1 3-15 on a 22LR. Probably my favorite SFP reticle.

I had been watching for a cheap 2-10 gen 1 with hsr-4 reticle but I'm not a fan of the bdc reticle here.

Ok scope if you hunt whitetails inside 100 yards and mil shift in any direction from riding in the truck won’t matter

Granted my 3-15 only shifted .5 mil from falling over

Bringing this back up as this scope is down to $649. I bought one to try on a 6.5CM. Worst case, I will put it on a 223 walking varminter.

I'm happy with mine so far. I mounted it to a Ruger Gunsite scout in 308, 18 inch barrel. I'm in the West Georgia area and use it for whitetail and hogs. 200yds is a long shot out here unless it is over a pasture/field. Most of where I hunt is Pine forest/logging leases with an occasional farm.
Seems to hold zero just fine for the few times I have shot it (<50 rounds).

Glass clarity is on par with my Leupold vx 3's and 4's. The center is very crisp, color is great, Chromatic aberration is minimal. The edge clarity does fall off quicker compared to my Gen 3 razor but I know that is not a fair comparison.

My only gripe is the center dot is hard to find when (with the illumination off) the sun gets low (first/last light). You MUST turn the illumination on for the center dot to be usable in low light conditions. The glass itself is great in low light, I just cant see the dang center dot. I know that is what the illumination was designed for- I'm just whining because I like to think of illuminated reticles as a nice to have feature and not something I must use in certain conditions.

Durability and its long-term ability to hold zero are yet to be determined. I have better scopes but they cost more so.....I'm happy with my purchase for the price point.
