A Canadian friend here in Idaho moved to the states many years ago. He’s a physician so he probably had some priority in moving to the US. He and his wife are coming over to our place this week for a gathering. Your post has spurred my curiosity so going to ask him some Qs. Have another good friend that married a yank about ~4 years ago. But she has to stay in Canada at least ½ the year. If not, she told me that Canada will instantly tax her 25% (to my recollection) on her total estate value. It is an enormous penalty and she diligently obeys the laws. Income and property taxes are one thing but wealth tax is a whole new ball game! Both of my CA friends are “like minded” as you mentioned and from the general Calgary region.
